Using numbers in a domain

Generally the domains without number and hyphens are usually preferred.
Sometimes you are not in a position to get your exact keyword or nearby matches available for registration.
Is there any way you can use a number in your domain but without doing much harm to its value or presentation.
There are some successful sites like 101domains, 1and1domains etc which have gone successfully.
Additionally the topmost sale of last month was 345 dot com which went in 6 figures. All 4N domains have been sold out. We use numbers in our day to day life in form of mobile no., zip codes etc...
Is it the time to break old myth that numbers are no go areas?
Some things I assume
1. They have a chance of confusion with their spellings e.g. 1something can be confused with onesomething
2. Numbers 1,4,5,7,9 are apparently more popular than 3,6,8 to combine in domain (Personal opinion)
3 Best use of numbers can be made either in the beginning or at the end of domain rather than placing in between
4 sometimes to avoid people spelling five in stead of 5, some people chose multiple digits like 22,24,66 etc for whom anybody will type number directly rather than typing 'twenty two' etc...
I welcome further suggestions from experienced members for beginners like us on how to use numbers smartly....

With sites like 101domains. 1and1, 123-reg, it's more about branding and advertising, I personally wouldn't say that numbers are a bad thing BUT I wouldn't purchase any domains with numbers in as well as text and expect to sell them easily or at all, though if I were a business I'd consider it. To an extent a decent advertising campaign negates explaining whether the number in your business name is the word or number.

The numbers in the beginning or in the end of domain is better ?

I would prefer to keep them in the last. There can be many opinions regarding this.

I have accepted your view and confessed in the beginning itself that its better if we do not have to go for numbers.
But cards may not be in a position you desire. The generic domains may be unavailable or may be too pricey.
Look for any common keywords like travel, info, sex, web, net etc... you may get every x/y and z attached to them already got sold. Now you have two options either going for lengthy suffix/prefix or otherwise using short number to keep your domain length small. The number that you use with domain must be matching to your goal rather than arbitrary shot. eg News24 is far better than newsallday or newsroundtheclock.

It would depend on the usage, such as above, news24 works well, but if your business was an address then from a branding pov it might work better at the front, I suppose a front example would be 99pstore (a poor example but you get my drift....) I dont think there is a definitive answer.......

I only have 2 number domains in my portfolio (which is only small less than 150):

3DPUBLICATION.COM

4DTUTORIAL.COM

In my idea, numbers at the beginning and the end are okay.

Ok if number is in middle? Like Neat2Shop?

The number 2 can be used in place of word to.Its a very nice idea per se. But again this leads your domain susceptible for spelling alterations and falling in wrong hands. One must be careful about this while advertising.

Numbers like 101 have a strong meaning in our society. In school it may be a beginner's class and it's also used to convey a sense of being over the top. There are a few numbers like this that can be used in context to give it extra meaning and hence value for a domain name.

It can also be valuable if it's used as a mnemonic device to help people remember something like someone mentioned above.

You also have to remember that numbers are important in some cultures as well, such as china....

Some numbers add meaning to the domain itself like 247something or something101 or 123something etc. while some others like fr0zen, p3tblog, p0wer etc impoverish the domain

Whole purpose of this thread was to discuss compare such prime important numbers which can make your domain worth even if they are clubbed.
Number 1: very commonly used as it denotes top spot or beginning position
Number 2: as like discussed above can be used in place of 'to'. Like 'go2bed'
Number 3: 3 dimensions, 3card games, 3tiers etc
Number 4: 4 directions, 4 corners, 4 dimensions

Many a times I fail to notice l0gic of using '0' in place of 'o'. Makes you feel like too stretched on.

You will have to be careful with what you go with.
If you develop the domain you can choose whatever name makes you happy...if you are buying it to resell it then your risk of wasting money increases dramatically. Just my opinion

I like very short pure number names - very easy to remember :)

The prices on number domains are almost entirely driven by the Chinese. Number 8 is the best. Number 4 is the worst. Certain number patterns for homonyms for common Chinese phrases as well. 520 means "I love you" for example. I think there is a bubble in number domain prices, but maybe that's because I don't have any.

Just registered another one : 'tabs24 dot com'
Seemed short domain just 6 character. 'Tabs' is trending hot keyword. Hope 24 doesn't disturb it too much.

Yes this question is important for me too...
It seems to be interesting...
Is it better as Prefix or Suffix?

There is an extremely limited market for domains with number/letter combinations. The only active market, which is mostly all numbers, is the chinese market. So you have to be extremely lucky to ever sell a domain with numbers/letters. Extremely lucky.

A case in point would be AC360.com, which I'm sure the seller never thought that Anderson Cooper of CNN would buy that for $12k. I'm sure he was thinking about Air Conditioning when he regged the domain.

Do I have any letter/number combinations in my portfolio. Yes. A few. Mostly 360 domains. But I've never had 1 offer for one of these domains, and they have almost 0 visitors when parked. I think you need to accept fairly high risk with these domains. So keep your day job. You might need it to finance these domains.
