Immersive porn is marketed as "360" degrees, because it sounds catchier and references the growing "360" trend. But I'm getting the impression from articles
like this that immersive porn is really shot in
180 degrees, which is something that other film industries may eventually follow, once they realize how practical it is.
Lighting a set in 360 is nearly impossible without the viewer seeing the equipment and/or the studio's crew.
It's worth also noting that since humans can't turn their heads in 360 degrees like owls, it's likely that what's going on behind their field of view will be missed anyway.
360 is better suited for gaming (
standing up, turning, walking) while
180 is more natural for
sitting down and watching (movies, porn, TV, etc). So don't be surprised if 360 winds down as a bunch of hype while 180 slowly takes the stage as a new format for consumers.
