Hi everyone,

I just bought an awesome generic .com domain at GoDaddy auction for around 70 euro BIN. I don't want to say the name yet, but this one could be sold for thousands, think even 50k+. So I am probably being scammed..? Of course I have to wait 14 days, but I am already looking forward to a GD email with bad news... Ever happened to anyone of you?

Getting back to the IDN question which I sometimes fall fowl of, any suggestions on a registrar that is consistent. For instance Name cheap find the domain in a certain language & everything goes smooth, another language they find it, allow you to add it to basket & then spit out back at you, which can be annoying if you have topped up yout account using BTC especially to cover that Domain & they don't refund BTC. Anyway a good registrar please, & also best of luck with your Domain.

Well I have read some things about owners who suddenly can't provide the domain. But I have to wait now I guess.
It's good to wait. I have read owners let it expire to get it in the auction to gauge interest/value. Others have suggested it creates more queries too.
Cheers

"Expired auction tasting" sounds legit.

How would you transfer out an expired name?
"technically possible" sounds like headache on that route.

Transfer process is the same for expired domains because technically you still have control. In some cases I wait till expired because other registries don't honor "time left".

Don't wait. That is, give it maybe 5 days after purchase and simply email auctions<AT>godaddy.com stating your concerns whether it was a legitimate listing. They should clarify that or at least respond within 24-48 hours.

I cant wait to see what this domain is going to be.
30 days is a long time when you live in the domain transfer/escrow world.
good luck, I hope you get it transferred into your Godaddy account.

someone wrote some good advice earlier, call godaddy, its their platform and you DID pay right?
hopefully they can keep you notified of each step along the transfer process.

avtar629, don't drool all over this legitimate thread with your poor sales attempts. its embarrassing and disrespectful.

Sucks. On thee other hand very good tool to see if you have a 4-5 figure domain.

Still if marketplaces allow this they should allow you to ask the marketplace to contact all the bidders and continue the auction

This sort of thing just pisses off buyers. If someone did this to a domain I was winning the bid and took it back I'd appreciate at least being contacted and given the opportunity to restart thee auction.

Doesn't matter to me who the current owner is really. So long as I get the domain I was bidding on in the first place.

It just ends with a good customer experience all around.

But I guess there's a "benefit" to the marketplace to have things remain just the way they are.

Idea! I think a marketplace that had this "gimmick" would find a niche for itself.

Wonder how many domainers would give it a try? Imagine being able to let your domain expire go to auction and if the bids are $xxxx take it back for $80-$100 fee?

Then simply restart the auction? And invite all bidders back?

Na. The domainer is looking for a base number to multiply by 10x or so to get a retail list price. If they wanted to sell at auction they would have done that! And, a buyer at auction wouldn't pay retail. Another reason auction buyers don't go look up who bought it then make a slightly higher auction offer
Personally, I wouldn't participate in an auction where domainers repeatedly did this.

Status is already 3 days "authorization code needed". Don't know if this is normal and I would like to hear how long this normally takes to change.

You need the current owners engagement, if it is not at godaddy, could be domain was previously sold, and not even rightfully listed by the current owner.

Where does the current owner reside?

Registrar Fabulous. I don't know if I have to email the owner, GoDaddy sent me an email that they did it.

Be patient, how many days have passed since you bought the domain?
Others have suggested that the process can take a few days / up to 30 days, so you either wait for the process to run its course OR you contact GD support team for help

I trust GD have means of addressing such issues, maybe
@Joe Styler can help

Just out of curiosity, is your domain one of: apostolate, boarders, verification? These are the only ones nonadult and English names that meet your description. Whatever it is, even the worst 20 years aged words are selling for $2000 min. Domains above were at GD public auctions before, with "make offer" only. Maybe 90 days limit of the auction expired, the owner relisted it and put wrong BIN. Wish you good luck!
