I know you could write a nonpareil guide that would be so helpful to do many. It would seem
a daunting task for sure, but know you are as prolific a writer as there is save for maybe Stephen King.

I would be glad to edit it, but, quite honestly, it appears you are as good an editor as writer.

I think l could help you best by suggesting some important areas to cover that us domaining-“illiterates” need help in to maximize our potential.

If you are going to register hyphenated domains it might be a good idea to check if the non hyphenated version is in actual use and when it was registered.
And even if the non hyphenated version is actually registered!

    e.g.
    New reg. Paint-Brushes.com

    PaintBrushes.com
-registered in 1996 and selling-Paint Brushes among other things.

Yep I think readability and/or style comes into play especially when a business wants to form their already hyphenated brand into a url, like a la Coca-Cola, and not using the hyphen would be a misrepresentation. Also many official dictionary spellings which are hyphenated shouldn't be penalized by us when it is chosen as such in a domain name.

Another reason to consider a hyphen with the domain is when Word1+Word2.com (or whatever extension) has double letters in the middle of the split (ending of word 1, beginning of word 2), so for readability the hyphen just makes it look better. Here's an example off the top of my head, made up:
    lavaasset.com
    vs
    lava-asset.com

    **
How about 61 hyphens? :woot: This puppy's from June 2000, I believe it's the only one on the internet. This beauty is grandfathered, you can't hand-reg anything more than two hyphens between two single characters in the .com extension.

    a-------------------------------------------------------------a.com

    **

Personally, not a big fan of hyphened domains, although do have a couple. e-folio (com) is one.

I have hyphenated domain Auction-Site.com (I mention about this earlier). Non-hyphenated version Auctionsite.com was registered and is used as family auction business in Australia.
I thought and I think: If I will write with offer my domain auction-site.com to them they will file UDRP on me, ignore my email or answer "No thanks"?
How to offer my hyphenated domain to them correctly?

"Therefore, sales including hyphens represent 1.7% of all .com sales"

Generally, I think Hyphen sales be compared with two word .com names. That will be great. But, such a sort option is not available with sales data

Absolutely great analysis Bob.We have few hyphenated domains such as 80-20.com, lean-agile.com, IC-Disc.com that we will keep for longer because it makes absolute sense for buyers. We will not let it go cheap. :xf.smile:

One question @MichaelEhrhardt: You post results of your hyphenated domain sales or someone's else domain sales that you found out from NameBio?
