.IM Discussion

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I have seen quite a few registered lately, has anyone got any comments on these names. What if there was a good keyword name, is it worth grabbing.

I believe its the Isle Of Man, but are people possibly going to use the "Instant Messaging" acronym for these domains??

Thanks for any advice??

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I just grabbed these 3

Tones.im
Screensavers.im
Items.im

Maybe we should get this thread changed to the "Official .IM Showcase" thread, would be nice to have one

yes i saw that, it surely is give good market for .im and i think sedo is promoting .im
too as you can see it on the inner banner on the right side with green mountain in
it its written .IM its an advertisement of some registry but its done on sedo so that
is what adds more marketing to it hope it does good and all premium names makes
money to show people what a wise investment they missed out on :)

Hmm my hometown .im is available.. should I reg it? It's a large urban area with population of 300k. I would definitely do some sort of development on the name if I got it. Only thing, will local advertisers buy adspace on a .im domain??

I think it will depend on Seo and how high up the SERPs you can get the site.
I may be wrong on this, but in my opinion maybe webmasters and domainers use type in more than the general web user. So if the majority use search engines and you are high enough up the SERP, you would get traffic no matter what the extension.

ChatRooms.im

a great name, and even suits the extension if taken in context with Instant Messaging.
It is for sale now, but only if its worth my while, or I'll hang onto it.

My first and only .im reg is Fighters.im I might develop it. Alot of extensions in this name were taken same as the country ones and I kept thinking well if I don't get it now someone eventually will. I will probably develop and see how it turns out.

Fighter.im is still available if someone wants to reg it.

I bought my first in this extension - fresh reg - zodiac.im - nicely searched keyword. I've got many similar in .ca and they do great as minisites. But that leaves the question - how does .im fair on google.com? Anyone running websites on these?

I have a few fresh regs on Whypark, all are indexed by g00gle.

Indexing is one thing, but how do they rank? Would be a nice coup for all .im owners if google starts treating them like they just have for .me.

The .im TLD is pretty darn expensive. Unless you can develop, turn a sale quickly, or get pretty high affiliate or parking cash, it could be hard to make it pay. At $65 per year reg fee, you can't really afford to hold one for very many years. I let all mine expire since parking income was pretty much nothing, and I had no offers to buy.

Not saying you can't make money, but it's more difficult on obscure ccTLD's with a high reg/renewal fee.

There are many more interesting ccTLDs around.

You cant put values on these names, unless you can find an end-user, most would already have a website and wont be looking for a new domain, unless you get lucky (or develop)

The Isle of Man, with a population of around 75,000 is always going to be a hard market to crack

Isle of Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As I have said before, you better off sticking to .com/net/org/info/de/us/fr/in/cn - avoid aiming at weird and wonderful extensions , just to get a good keyword

By the way, I own 3 .im names to test them out a bit, small sites, parking etc (Diamond, Tones, Screensavers)

Good luck
