Do you need www prefixed to your Dot Tv domain.

For example:

If you were to make a bumper sticker with your live websites name, would you print www.yourdomain.tv or yourdomain.tv?

Is yourdomain.tv enough or does the general public need to see www.yourdomain.tv to realize it’s a website?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

When I hear/listen to websites advertised on TV/radio I always wonder why they mention the www. It seems so blatantly obvious. On the other hand, when I see websites advertised in print it doesn't bother me to read the www.

So...I would use the www in your example.

It is completely dependent on how knowledgeable the viewer is. There is no need for the www prefix but most technically challenged people would associate a www.yourname.tv as a website a lot faster than yourname.tv. Know your market.

I've actually asked a few non domainers this questions recently:

"if you heard [name].tv, would you know that that was a website"

The answer is no in most cases, so for advertising you should always use the www or many people wont know that you are refering to a website.

I would save characters and go without "www."

On a bumper sticker I would prefer to see Chicago.TV than www.Chicago.TV

I would prefer the shorter catchier blah.TV version, but at this stage, i think if you want to capture mindshare and type in traffic from your print adverts, you would have more traction with -www.blah.TV-

I have been thinking a lot about this very subject lately and my conclusions are like Kibativity said:

Many users wouldnt know that xxxx.Tv was a website as many have never heard of .tv so right now i would show the www.xxxx.tv

In a year or 2 when everyone knows .tv then of course drop the www and go with the shorter, catchier slogan but iF you risk dropping the www just now then you risk missing out on some of the less internet savvy users.

For my personal .tv site i will go with the www and i will pronounce it as "www dot cranes dot tv" (its simply cranes.tv but i will sound it out as much as possible to make sure everyone gets the right message as many of the users wont be internet savvy and i know many have no idea what .tv is)

That is all just personal opinion of course, its a tough subject at this stage of the game though.

Best of Luck

I strongly recommend using the www. for now - In branding marketing ImGay.Tv aka as ig.tv we even went as far as to put www. before our logo - At first I had business/postcards made without - we started asking people if they didn't know it was a website and were just handed the card at a gathering/expo/club would they know - the answer was a resounding no! - now we do both - all in good time this will change IMO

IMHO(.tv) and from recent real world experience:

For now, use the www.

We promoted the same site 2 different ways at two similar places, the ads with the "WWW." completely eclipsed the "non-www." ads nearly 10 to 1 in terms of traffic. This was tested again with similar results. We learned our lesson.

good luck.

of course, YMMV(.tv) ;)
