You cant register it unless you have an ABN (Australian Business Number). I dont know if there are any sort of proxy registrations available.

if you live in australia ......... com.au is priceless !!!!!!! on a per capita basis
.com.au is maybe the most regged extension ....... but here's the catch , this extension is actually used !!! yep many websites advertised on shops . vans , work trucks and so-on So the value with this one is to end user , to the point that if you dont have .com.au ...... it may considered you are not local .... which means not as accessible as other business's ..... you could lose business , fancy that, an extension that is used for it's purpose ??? something to be said for cctlds , because this one works

Do you own an Australian business & have an ABN? If not, you're not able to reg them.

Also, not sure if you are allowed to sell domains just by itself, from the last time I read about .com.au names

The only reason it works is because you cant register it unless you have an ABN. Otherwise it would be just like the other ccTLDs.

I have 1600 ish of them so I like 'em!

From next month you will finally be able to sell them (with some restrictions) which will be interesting. However the ABN restrictions will still apply so this will dampen sales growth I expect.

It's a great cc-TLD - auDA run a tight ship and this has helped maintain its integrity - I say this despite countless run-ins with them!

Best thing about them is their usage. It's widespread in Australia, 95% of people will assume .com.au before considering anything other like .com so over here, com.au is king!
