This may or may not have been done in the past, but I thought it would be interesting to see what people do for their real occupation and or "day job" and how much money they make? That is of course for those who dont mind posting there ballpark yearly income figures and also everyone needs to realize we all live in different locations so wages are subject to differ greatly.

A small brief history of how you got involved in domaining, what you expect out of domaining and any money made buying/selling for comparison to your real job would also be interesting.

I'll go first B-)

My day job, I'm a professional union operating engineer and make between 50-80k a year. I'm also studying for my real estate license and hope to do well there along with my investment properties. I just got started domaining this year by noticeing the high prices of domains on godaddys auctions while regging my first domain. Needless to say the high prices caught my eye and from there I typed in "Domain name forum" on google and joined namepros. I have not made more then $50.00 but I'm hopeful one day to make a nice profit.

Thanks for reading and thats about it for me, next? :gl:

Nice start! To me, domaining seems a lot like real estate. If you have skills in one, you'll likely have it in the other. Just keep the creativity flowing and you'll make a big sale before you know it. :)

This is my full time job now. I make mid-high $xx,xxx per year but hope to hit the $xxx, xxx in the next couple years. My 4 kids take up more time than I like and it eats up production hours.

I used to own a small video game empire complete with a 18 person staff, a retail store, a magazine and a rather nice NYC loft office. Oh well...I now sit at home and press these rather worn out keys all day now.

I own a few restaurants and a small manufacturing company both with good partners. Although I make a good deal of money I invest in several other things. My plan is to retire (at least working alot of hours) within 7-10 years. I am not quite 40 and my whole goal with domaining and some of my other investments is to generate passive income and businesses that run without me needing to be there.

I only personally work for a company who make atm machines (NCR) pay isn't that great (but not bad for the area). I make about ยฃ18,000-ยฃ24,000 a year.

I do not buy and sell domains as such to make a profit on selling them on. I generally buy them for my own interest or to develop them.

Statistician/Entreprenour

I earn low to mid $XX,XXX. In the past three years I decided to start my own business but I didn't know what business to start. I found it so hard to work out which name I wanted for my business that I ended up deciding on buying a range of different website names for different projects. When I realised that there were some good 4 letter domain names like vurg.com around I bought some and put them for sale on TDNAM.com. I didn't realised how fast they would sell and I have been buying and selling more and more domains since then.

Mid way through this year, I realised that I am more profitable with trading domains than my previous favourite hobby business (See MIXINTOOLS.COM) and so I now am shifting my focus to put more attention to Domain Name trading.

I still haven't given up my day job as working as a Statistician is my source of income for now. I like the challenge of starting a business and so I hope to one day quit this job and work from home.

I recently got a promotion to Marketing Manager, I get a % of income generated by my team so total income will be difficult to predict at this time.
