My mom got a job fixing the accounting problems of a buy-sell-trade video games-music-movies-books store that was right next door to a movie theater. She ended up getting me a job as a cashier, except this place was really low budget so I was the only one working there on Fri. and Sat. nights (huge movie theater crowds). I was only 16
Being a cashier was alright, but when it came to helping people find anything other than books or video games, I was clueless. "Hey dude, you got the new Metallica CD?" "Um...I dunno."
The worst part though was that people knew I was clueless about music and movie values, so they would wait until I was working to bring in their stuff to sell. I had huge lines, so was nervous and had to hurry, and just used the rarely-up-to-date price guide the manager made. People definitely made money off of me.
Then I got a job working for discover card, which paid well but sucked.
The ultimate job was UPS, where I got to throw boxes around, get a workout, and get paid $11.00 an hour. If you've got a UPS hub around you, I would definitely check it out. Great job with huge career potential.
