"We're proud to announce that del.icio.us has joined the Yahoo! family. Together we'll continue to improve how people discover, remember and share on the Internet, with a big emphasis on the power of community. We're excited to be working with the Yahoo! Search team - they definitely get social systems and their potential to change the web. (We're also excited to be joining our fraternal twin Flickr!)" link

Who didn't see this one coming :)

yeah ... some of you have missed the point. the .us extention has not got alot to do with it. It's the service. :)

No, none of the .US well-wisher is that naive to miss the point, but the fact is that anything that gives new extensions a good exposure and brings them a step closer to being the main stream is what some of us crave...and for this craving, this news is a BIG fix....got it!

Hi folks,
I know godaddy asks about some requirements when you try to register a .us domain name, but some other registrars seem not asking.

How strict a requirement is that you have to be a citizen or permanent resident? will the fact that the site will serve more US visitors help?

Just a newbie question,

Thanks,

gamehouse

Well the rules are rules... BUT afaik you most likely won't get caught. I know I haven't ;)... The fact that your site may be serving mostly US visitors will not help though.
Hope it helped.

Exactly. The excitement is not just about a .US domain at the core of the service that was sold, it's about the exposure it brings to the .US name-space in general.

Interesting thread - the attraction of .us was established long before this minor acquisition by Y!

This just part of web 2.0 - and perhaps a sign of Web 2.01 ;)
