Last year, I registered 7 domains at yahoo. Before expiration, I transferred those domains successfully to another registrar. Today, i got my credit card bill, and there were Yahoo renewal charges for 6 of the domains. I called them and at first, they were not going to give me my money back, but eventually, they relented and said that they would refund the charges. We'll see how it turns out...

Anyway, I wanted to let you who have domains with Yahoo know...If you transfer them out or want to let them drop, you actually have to go into your Domain Services toolbar and cancel each service, even if you've tranferred the domains. It's nuts that you could have a domain at more than one registrar, but obviously, Yahoo doesn't care.

You know what's even more rediculous? It took Yahoo about 3 weeks to transfer one of my domains -_-
It wasn't one of the important ones o well

Yahoo's motto: you get what you pay for at our standard

Yahoo's $10~15 services = Normal company's $7~12 services

In my opinion, Yahoo is fast becoming the scum of the internet. They're simply trying to screw people in any and all ways they can think of.

Well I dun think they NEED to "screw" people in in any way possible, since they're a remarkably large chain of site developers who makes a shitload of $$$.
They need to do that to get people in? I think not.

I don't think money's their priority problem. Probably quality

I have had some problems with Yahoo in the past as well. My main problem has been their tech support people not reading my ticket info. They see the word transfer and they automatically send me a how-to transfer template response signed by xxx employee. The only way I was able to get them to read the ticket (on the third try) was to use a ****PLEASE READ ENTIRE TICKET! 3RD REQUEST*** kind of line. Even then the response was mediocre, but at least not a template response. The only time I register a name with them is if I don't think I will transfer/sell the name to anyone AND they have a special going on. Other than that it is worth the extra dollar or two for the push services offered at godaddy, enom... IMO.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We experienced a similar nightmare that we could never resolve with several domains at Look Communications ( a relatively large, at the time, Canadian outfit) who wound up billing us for services they never really provided.

After much voicemail armageddon we wrote off the expense. :(

Yahoo's not THAT bad, I guess. Considering they have pretty nice feedback services, etc.

They clearly state in their agreement that (if you have read), UNLESS you CANCEL the domain name services , not just transfer, they will continue to charge. i don't know what that means :p

Too bad they're forcing users to do that to ensure Yahoo won't charge them
anymore after moving out.

Tough thought. They're not THAT bad, I guess. You can trust them with your stuff there (very safe, reliable). Just there are service flaws from time to time, and eventually it gets on my nerves ...
