I bought a bunch of domains from Yahoo last year and have recently sold a few and need to transfer them, but having a hard time with Yahoo.

What is the easiest way of transfering them?

Thanks!

Best of luck with the transfer, I have heard from many others that transferring out of yahoo is a huge pain. Additionally, I have also heard that yahoo charges fees for domain transfers. Since I have never used Yahoo, I don't know how their procedure works. Best of luck with the transfers.

Oh God! You are in mighty trouble! If you had read about Yahoo and trnasfering names from Yahoo from NamePros or somewhere else, you would have never gone there, even if they gave you for free :p Best of Luck though!

The best I can suggest is:

Transfer the name out to another registrar. Once the transfer is over and you make sure you have the control on the name at the new registrar (and new whois shows the new registar) then go back to yahoo and cancel the domain name. That should solve the problem.

After that, don't register any names with yahoo if you have plans to sell those names. otherwise, nobody can beat 2.99$ from yahoo, I am sure.

What is a good registrar to transfer to and what are the costs?

Thanks!

Don't get involved in the transfer process between you and your buyer. Push to them instead. Let them worry about transferring the domains from one registrar to another. Getting involved in the transfer process with your buyer cna open you up to fraud - meaning they can steal your domain from you. Just do a push.

If yahoo does not allow a push, then you have learned your lesson the hard by buying domains from Yahoo. Live and learn and use namecheap or another real registrar from now on. :imho:

Remember, you get what you pay for.

A push is just anoter way of saying "transfering the domain."

Here's what I did...

Transfer the domains to your Godaddy/Namecheap/etc.. account. there are no extra charges to do this other than the normal transfer fees (usually around $8). It took my names 4-5 days to appear in my Namecheap account.

Go back to yahoo & make sure to cancel every domain/service you're not using with them anymore, or they will bill you for them when your renewal comes up.

Once the domains appear in your Godaddy/etc.. account, you can push them to other Godaddy users for free. If you happen to sell a domain, use this method to send the domain to the buyer. Have them set up an account there if they don't have one.

Note: No one will be able to transfer a domain away from a registrar for 60 days after it has been transferred to that registrar.

Pray that yahoo doesn't still try to charge you for extra services ;)

Push isn't another word for transfer. Push is between accounts of the same registrar. And Yahell does NOT support this.

If the domains are EPP Auth based (i.e. NOT .com / .net) - you're having REALLY hard time, because Yahoo will NOT give you EPP codes. Then you're most probably scre@^ed for good...

Anyway, good luck.

Not really. "Push" is not really the same as a "transfer".

Technically, the term "transfer" (as it applies to domaining) refers to transferring the domain from one registrar to another. The term "Push", on the other hand, means that you are moving the domain, but not from registrar to registrar but rather from one account to another account from within the same registrar. Big difference.

If you sell a domain to someone, never do a "transfer" as it sets you up for fraud. Instead, tell your buyer to open a free account at the registrar where you regged the name (if they already don't have an account there) and then "push' the domain into their account. Leave the "transfer" process to the buyer to do for himself if in fact they desire to transfer the name out of that registrar into another.

Same thing goes if you buy a domain from someone else. Don't let them get involved in your transfer process if you want to transfer that domain from that registrar where they regged the domain you just bought. Instead, open and account with that registrar and tell them to "push" it into your account. You can then worry about the transfer yourself if you want to move that domain to another registrar. That is much safer and also less confusing.

BTW, pushing should cost you NO MONEY. That is, if you are with a reputable, registar like namecheap or Godaddy. If you ever encounter a registrar that charges you to push domains form one account to another, find a new registrar. Better yet, don;t waste your time looking for a new one, just use Namecheap and you won't be disappointed. :imho:

If you manage to either push or transfer a domain from yahoo let us all know because the procedure is a mystery to me. The one time I tried I failed and let the name drop.

I successfully transferred 7 domains from yahoo to namecheap in July/August '05. I just transferred them in from Namecheap as I normally would...

Customer service told me that they will cancel the registration and then I can register elsewhere. I dont think there is a charge involved for cancellation.... someone else can clarify.

I would like to know how much time does this whole process take...

Has anyone tried with registrar's other than NC

My apologies for my overly simplified definition of "push" and if anyone was confused by it.

Were these EPP-based? If yes, HOW did you managed to get the Auth codes?

Thank you.
