Perhaps the biggest rebrand of our generation, Musk announced yesterday he was looking for a new X logo for Twitter and could implement it as soon as today.

It will be interesting because the blue bird has always been synonymous with Twitter. It will take some getting used to a new logo, but even more confusion may come with a complete domain rebrand.

Today Elon announced he is forwarding his, and arguably the most valuable domain name of all domains, X.com to Twitter:

X.com has always remained something of an enigma to the rest of the world because it has never actually been developed into a full-fledged site. The history behind it including a relationship with Musk's previously owned company, PayPal, has always been a sort of fleeting one, reminiscent of Twitter current logo of a bird: one that never settles but always finds its branch.

The logo rebrand will be implemented, but I wonder, will we be using X.com instead of Twitter.com in the near future and how would this kind of rebrand affect folks emotionally, sentimentally, business-wise? "X" name is awesome, sure, but "Twitter" name seems a more safe, neutral brand for the masses. Or maybe people just won't care, there's a lot invested by companies and persons in the platform to swing away to an alternative.

Maybe this will be solely a logo change, and x.com will remain a forwarding tool in perpetuity. Elon has already begun development on his X.ai, would it be smarter to keep the "X" brand associated to that rather than changing Twitter, or is this a kind of complete amalgamation.

I'm loving all you haters. Keep hating if that's all you can offer.

The banking industry is overdue for disruption, and Elon is the only person who is trying to do anything about it and is actually able to do it. But no, you guys prefer for Wall Street to continue to rip you off with ridiculous fees, transfers that take forever, 0% saving account yields, and massive profits for everyone but you, the consumer.

People would rather let their ignorance and idiotic personal views interfere with what's definitely going to become one of the most useful companies in U.S. history

I see strong opinions, disagreement and discussion but I see no hate.

Perfect domain for the adult ....

Indonesia blocks Musk’s X.com under curbs on porn, gambling

Elon Musk’s aspirations for X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, have hit a stumbling block in Indonesia after the site X.com was blocked under the country’s curbs on online pornography and gambling.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics said the site was restricted as the domain had been previously used by sites that did not adhere to the country’s strict laws against “negative” content such as pornography and gambling.

All I can think is that the timing of the Threads launch was borderline brilliant.
Perhaps but I don't think that name will gain the same brand appeal as Twitter had, which spun off its own verbs synonymous with its posts and reposts.

Meta also has a trademark with an X logo which hasn't seen much use but covers usage on streaming, entertainment services, online social networking etc.

I am not sure about X as a trademarked term, the actual letter itself. It doesn't get much better in owning the exact match in dot-com though trademarks from other entities could throw some wrenches into the deal.

Ironically, in my eyes, Meta's "X" logo seems more twitteresh with its blue white colours and soft rounded edges. But a real bore of a logo it would be a step back from the cutting-edge territory Musk is headed.

Completely pointless and irrelevant rebrand.

It would make some kind of sense if there was some new service such that "twitter" was no longer a good fit. But it's just the same increasingly buggy platform with an X on it.

One question might be "How does this change the revenue outlook?" by taking a globally recognized brand and just throwing that brand equity away?

Is everyone with a bird logo on their website going to update it to an X? No.

I'll bet a year from now, people still call it "twitter".

So silly. Just to feed one person's vanity, with no actual business purpose.

Utterly pointless and unneeded rebrand. I can't wait for the memes.

Hi, i've read something regarding Twitter account names and speculation/plans on enabling some kind of premium business accounts to have their subdomains at Twitter, if add this info on the new domain & rebranding, all seems increasing the business possibilities in multiple ways, and that probably will resemble to eBay Stores framework,FB Meta Business model, or other e-commerce platform fashion(?).

You know what is genius, that he makes everybody talk about it, more exposure, more people will be curious, more activity on the platform.

That's a pretty funny chart starting at 525 million and going to 540 million.

It makes it look like the numbers doubled when in reality it went up 1.8%.

Brad

Twitter / X monthly active users in 2022: 368 million and now in 2023: 541 million and rising.

Let that sink in Brad. P.S. remember to change your signature to X in the future.

Yep, the free version.

I don't need to pay for a little blue check to feel important.

Brad
indeed, no need for that, but we want to reach people right, now more people will like your tweets, more eyeballs, be happy, cheers.

I don't think it would really do anything for my bottom line. I don't really transact business on Twitter.

I see a lot of domain spam, but does anyone actually sell domains on Twitter?

Twitter would probably get more people to pay for the extra features if there was an option to hide the blue check.

I'm currently watching Elon' and Vivek Ramaswamy' Twitter Spaces, Vivek was mentioning where the name 'America' comes from and then Elon said he actually owns etymology.com, interesting.
