Perhaps the biggest rebrand of our generation, Musk announced yesterday he was looking for a new X logo for Twitter and could implement it as soon as today.

It will be interesting because the blue bird has always been synonymous with Twitter. It will take some getting used to a new logo, but even more confusion may come with a complete domain rebrand.

Today Elon announced he is forwarding his, and arguably the most valuable domain name of all domains, X.com to Twitter:

X.com has always remained something of an enigma to the rest of the world because it has never actually been developed into a full-fledged site. The history behind it including a relationship with Musk's previously owned company, PayPal, has always been a sort of fleeting one, reminiscent of Twitter current logo of a bird: one that never settles but always finds its branch.

The logo rebrand will be implemented, but I wonder, will we be using X.com instead of Twitter.com in the near future and how would this kind of rebrand affect folks emotionally, sentimentally, business-wise? "X" name is awesome, sure, but "Twitter" name seems a more safe, neutral brand for the masses. Or maybe people just won't care, there's a lot invested by companies and persons in the platform to swing away to an alternative.

Maybe this will be solely a logo change, and x.com will remain a forwarding tool in perpetuity. Elon has already begun development on his X.ai, would it be smarter to keep the "X" brand associated to that rather than changing Twitter, or is this a kind of complete amalgamation.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Completely pointless and irrelevant rebrand.

Perfect domain for the adult entertainment industry. Easy to remember and to type...fast. & I guess the X neighbourhood is happy also (XX XXX XXXX XXXXX etc com domains).

Twitter suspended the @ xvideos account.

Show attachment 243420

They supposedly want to name their video service "xvideos".

What amazing timing on the suspension...

Gee, naming your service after a porn site. What could go wrong?

Brad
Musk can suspend the @ xvideos account pretty easy... hurray for him.

Now, let him start his video service "xvideos" and let the party start, because it won't be that easy to get xvideos.com, as there's where everybody will go to find those "xvideos" lol

"Elon "Graphic Design Is My Passion" Musk's logo for "X" is literally just Unicode Character “𝕏” (U+1D54F)."

"As a number of people have pointed out, that means Musk can't trademark the logo."

Those who hate the re-brand of “Twitter” to “X.com” are projecting and hate Elon imo.

Go Elon, go!!

I don't care if it is a pointless rebrand or a great rebrand, as long as my X domains are getting more offers due to it hahaha. Got this nice offer today of $25,000 for XNetwork.com, but counter offered.

I know we're all domainers.

But Twitter.com was already a powerful .com because of its history and rep.

Homing twitter on X.com is not going to cover up or magically erase alll the fk'd up[ things Elon has done to twitter.

The rebrand is useless and actually really annoying to see the X in the upper left instead of the blue friendly bird .

I'll be honest, I like the new logo. It just seems mismatched with the Twitter brand and experience, and will definitely take some getting used to.

So is a tweet now called an "X" and a retweet is a "Re-X"?

The new "X" logo looks like it was created by someone on Fiverr.

Brad
It doesn't make a lot sense, tweeting is Twitter, retweeting etc. RT's will be Rx's. Prescription X?

This logo change points to full on X.com inevitability.

Elon's reasoning:

"the ability to conduct your entire financial world"

haha

"Twitter was acquired by X Corp both to ensure freedom of speech and as an accelerant for X, the everything app. This is not simply a company renaming itself, but doing the same thing.

The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video.

In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world. The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird."

Elon should rethink his research and marketing department.

Archive.org shows this logo for X.Org Foundation going back to at least 2000.

Seriously?

I don't see a real issue with X.org. The Unicode Character is way more egregious. X is boring. Oh wait...

I thought there might be a lucky IDN out there, but it looks like 𝕏.com = x.com

I guess it is cool that X.com now is in meaningful use, but to me it would have been a better branding exercise if a more clear meaning of the rebrand was obvious. For example, if it coincided with the transformation of Twitter in some major way to incorporate information authentication, better AI-enabled tools, aligned services of some kind, in social media or otherwise, some user benefit, etc.

The other main reason to rebrand is if the existing brand does not work. But I don't see that here. There are definitely problems and lagging growth and lack of commercial success at Twitter, but I don't think it is because it has a poor name.

All I can think is that the timing of the Threads launch was borderline brilliant.

Elon is too lazy to set up a new app from ground up.
(calling it X, the everything / super app).

I think, he just casually thought (as it is always the case :xf.wink:):

Lets turn twitter itself into this super app.
Benefits lay on the hand: It already has half of the world as user base,
people do not need to exert and visit the play/app store, to download a new app...

Its easier to add some payment options to twitter / X, later on maybe a marketplace, etc.
(copycat wechat)

Just my guess...

Once its accomplished, the stack for just tweeting may be rebranded back to twitter,
which will find itself inside of an enormous app, offering other services too...

...some sort of Frankenstein monster App...

:giggle:

It makeы sense to change to X, because twitter won't be just a open messaging media app., it will be a "pay for anything" app as a wechat copycat.

Twitter's new 'X' logo looks suspiciously like a generic Unicode symbol

https://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-x-logo-unicode-math-textbooks-2023-7

"Twitter has a new logo thanks to a major rebrand that Elon Musk announced over the weekend: 𝕏.

But the new branding looks suspiciously like a generic Unicode character known as "mathematical double-struck capital X" that was added to the Unicode in March 2001.

(Unicode is an international computing standard in which every character or symbol has a specific numerical value that can be used across platforms.)

Matthew Scroggs, a postdoctoral research fellow at University College London, tweeted — or is it "x'd" now? — that the character has "been used in mathematical text books since the 70s."

"The “business genius” rebranded a globally recognized brand and neologism to a logo that is just the Unicode Character “𝕏” and an unlicensed font from @Monotype, so it can’t be trademarked, without securing the @X handle while bleeding ad revenue to become a “finance” app
👍

You know what is genius, that he makes everybody talk about it, more exposure, more people will be curious, more activity on the platform. He can always change the logo, I think he even said it will change in the future.

The genius is making people so pissed off about every change in Twitter that is making the job quite easy for Zuck to pick up them and gradually grow Threads. Even if Musk starts crying moaning for "being copied".

Most people are just very pissed at everything nowadays. Zuck just used Instagram to grow threads it was not organic.

I don't know who came up with the idea that 'Tweets' should be called 'Xeets', that's just dumb. Also, X in China make a Sh like sound, so 1.4 billion people will just call it 'Shits'.
