Perhaps the biggest rebrand of our generation, Musk announced yesterday he was looking for a new X logo for Twitter and could implement it as soon as today.

It will be interesting because the blue bird has always been synonymous with Twitter. It will take some getting used to a new logo, but even more confusion may come with a complete domain rebrand.

Today Elon announced he is forwarding his, and arguably the most valuable domain name of all domains, X.com to Twitter:

X.com has always remained something of an enigma to the rest of the world because it has never actually been developed into a full-fledged site. The history behind it including a relationship with Musk's previously owned company, PayPal, has always been a sort of fleeting one, reminiscent of Twitter current logo of a bird: one that never settles but always finds its branch.

The logo rebrand will be implemented, but I wonder, will we be using X.com instead of Twitter.com in the near future and how would this kind of rebrand affect folks emotionally, sentimentally, business-wise? "X" name is awesome, sure, but "Twitter" name seems a more safe, neutral brand for the masses. Or maybe people just won't care, there's a lot invested by companies and persons in the platform to swing away to an alternative.

Maybe this will be solely a logo change, and x.com will remain a forwarding tool in perpetuity. Elon has already begun development on his X.ai, would it be smarter to keep the "X" brand associated to that rather than changing Twitter, or is this a kind of complete amalgamation.

X.com (twitter.com) is the world's 5th most visited website.

Hi

after seeing it in the tag lines of tv reports, i think the "X" looks much better than the bird.

this also was big promo for .com extension.

The only thing with the X is sometimes when I want to close the page, am I hitting the close (X) or the logo 𝕏 and goes back to homepage and it's like, "but wait I was trying to exit".

You can use x.com/(username) as a link to your X address, if so inclined.

Eg. x.com/namepros

it'd be better if Elon Musk use the domain X.com to sell recreational MDMA when it's legalized

More news from the new and rebranded twitter. Is it really a battle with bots OR the rebranding cost was too high...?

Elon Musk’s Twitter Rolls Out Plan to Charge Users $1 a Year

Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is testing a program that would charge users an annual fee to post, reply, like and use a host of other key features, it confirmed in a post on its “Help Center.” The platform is rolling out a test version of the program, called “Not a Bot,” that will cost new users in New Zealand and the Philippines $1 a year. The program went live Tuesday, the company said. “It’s the only way to fight bots without blocking real users,” Musk wrote in a post. “This won’t stop bots completely, but it will be 1000X harder to manipulate the platform.” The plan appears to be a follow through on one of Musk’s ideas from last month—after he posted that X was “moving to having a small monthly payment” for use of the platform.

Starting today, we're testing a new program (Not A Bot) in New Zealand and the Philippines. New, unverified accounts will be required to sign up for a $1 annual subscription to be able to post & interact with other posts. Within this test, existing users are not affected.

Musk’s plan for X is to shift away from advertising toward paid subscriptions. But so far the company has persuaded less than 1% of users to sign up for its monthly premium service, translating to less than $120 million annually, Bloomberg has estimated.

Elon Musk’s X Is Worth Less Than Half of Price He Paid for Twitter

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is worth less than half of what Elon Musk paid for it a year ago.
Since the takeover, most of Twitter’s staff was laid off or resigned. Musk renamed the company X, changed some of its content rules and lost more than half of its advertising revenue.
Fortune earlier reported on the valuation, citing an internal memo.

Musk has also been vocal about turning X into an “everything app” that could generate revenue from features like shopping and payments. The company rolled out audio and video calling earlier this month, has a beta version of a hiring service and announced plans to launch a news wire. Musk told employees that X plans to compete with Google’s YouTube, Microsoft Corp.’s LinkedIn and Cision’s PR Newswire.

It needed downgrading cause it was way overvalued for how much it was losing. But at least it's not a cesspit like before full of mainstream "celebrities"

Not surprised! It's been going downhill ever since he took over.

Twitter become suck. Twits are now unavailable for non users NOBODY see your content outside.

DOMAINers should posting on their blogs on custom domains not elons blog.

Elok can delete your tweets for no reason.

Elon Frontrunnig usernames and make them premiums.

Do not use Twitter.

Everything is referenced as X now except for the actual resolving domain name. Getting all their ducks in a row. This is a good example of taking your time to do it right. Mind the confusion before the change.

I feel bad for the websites that constantly have to put "X, formerly known as Twitter" when referencing it. It's almost like having to spell out your domain because it doesn't pass the radio test.

X is undoubtedly among the coolest letters in the Latin alphabet.

X marks the spot!

I can't point the exact source now but swear I read on Twitter Elon saying DMs are the equivalent to xmail are they though? I think not because DMs go through the platform rather than individual email addresses assigned to a specific domain name.
