How do you explain to a chick what you do for a living as a domainer without making it sound like the most boring job on earth? How can you spin this to make it look interesting without boasting? Maybe i'll just pretend to be an architect...

I can think of plenty of other jobs that chicks would find more boring than domaining, insurance claims adjusters for instance as there's never anything new... besides another accident, of course. There are plenty of new and exciting things to do in domain name investing, and, well, if you can't relay that in an exciting way to a girl (or anyone else for that matter), then don't even try; chances are she'll be less enticed to hear anything else you have to say after that.

    >Learn to talk to women (without lying)
    >Learn to describe what you do in an interesting fashion, not only to women, but to everyone else as well. You're in sales, after all.
    >Profit

But, realistically speaking, you shouldn't be in this for the women or as what it appears, a dating conversation ice breaker. You should be in it for yourself. Develop yourself both personally and professionally, and everything else will naturally fall into place.

Don't like the first answer you receive so you go and attack it by changing the title to "WTF is this guy talking about?" from something along the lines of "How do you explain to a chick what you do for a living?".

It's painfully obvious now why women don't like listening to you.

Am I referring to them directly? No. I referred to them as a group, indirectly. And, it's not a discriminatory term, either. But, you think I'd approach a girl, after that advice, and say, "you're a fine chick!"? Heh.

Funny my day job is in the "boring" insurance field. If domaining was my full time gig, I would simply say "I'm a domain investor. I buy and sell internet domains similar to a real estate broker."

I agree with N-A's post. We are all in sales. Always be closing. :)

How about you let women AND the dictionary speak? Or you think you know better than women what can or can't be considered offensive for them?

First lesson I learned in my first formal sales training course: The ABC's.

    Always Be Closing. ;)

But, if you have a bad opening while prospecting... it's very hard to close. Work on your elevator pitch / 3 second pitch, etc., openers as you would, with girls... and you'll find the ABC's a little bit easier, much like with sales.

Most people don't care about professions of other people unless they're rich or famous. :greedy:

Why bother? Switch to new conversations that intrigue you both.

    Best answer, IMO:

Investment specialist/investor/trader helping small and big companies/clients with their online presence/ads/branding etc...

Or just say exactly what @briguy told you :)

But I also got that "pick up artist" feeling by the way you posted this question.

Age is often asked as well.

Notice that if you personally ask older people 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, etc... years old the answers get more interesting each decade. Typically, they're not lame, and usually, get funnier as age passes.

Learn from that, and apply what I already said.

    You'll be fine.

IMO it really doesn't matter what you're saying, it about what and how you tell with gesture and your whole presence.

In absence of a better example:
Mr George Clon.. may not need to say more than "Hi, I'm George" or whatever else nespresso told him to say
