I was thinking of starting a little site where users can register and get:

• A blog
• A photo gallery
• A link directory

Would it be a good idea?

If you are looking to create something unique - no.
If there is something specific about your site in mind that differentiates it from others then it may be a good project to do. Otherwise i would try to think of something more original.
