As the first lots of .Tv names were auction off today at SEDO I am happy to report that WorldMusic went for $412 after quite a battle.

Base.tv went for a measly $160

More sobering is that Hippy.tv went for $79:o:o

Perhaps the TV market is not as bright and shiny as we think. Indeed, it is slightly ominous that one of the big favourites, CONFIDENTIAL.tv is still only at the initial $60 bid and ONLY THREE names that were classed as being part of the Premium auction are guaranteed to actually make a sale.

THE FULL AUCTION OF TV's:

Active Auctions*-*Sedo.com

I'm actually starting to think the person who prices the names at Verisign/Enom/Name/Dyandot is actually pretty good at their job.

When you're losing to ...

vvv.mobi 200 $US 3 1d 18h 6m

It sucks.

Personally I'm watching "French". This is a great domain even if it is a premium - it's an interesting anchor element.

That said, once again it appears that Sedo has convinced people that it does brokering/advertising when all it does it list names.

I should build a Sedo equivalent... how hard can it be? $50 commission on a $60 sale? I'd work for that...

I think WorldMusic at $400+ is a good result.

Buys a few beers, some brats, and a good portion of a tattoo for the other side of the chest.

French.tv is going cheaply at the moment...only 109euro bid so far!

Yes, you can do it, too. Time sedo got competition, anyway. They are TOO LAZY FOR WORDS!!!! (...and we made them that way where they do not have to earn their keep!)

What we're seeing here is consolidation on a vast scale due to:

- recent increase in renewal fees across the board
- domains for sale (or available) FAR exceeding development demand
- worst economy in 15 or 20 years

The result will bring more people betting on Gold (aka .COM) and fewer investors gambling on pink sheets (aka ccTLD).

.com is not gold, and if it is, in the 21st century, it is fool's gold. I don't care who pays what, it is overpriced and becoming obsolete day by day as technology advances...

ooops, I want to say in my 21st century opinion.

Totally Agree

Maybe for mediocre names or name that really bite... however, for higher end names, they work for it :)

Sedo has generated tons of sales for me.. I like them.

...or sedo could be taking credit for sales where none is due...

At any rate, I am glad you like them and have good fortune with them.

To me, they are lackadaisical, period...

Would be thrilled with all three of those sales. . WorldMusic seems like a good sale a real end user would maybe have gone $1000.

Hippy is not really the right spelling hippie much more popular. I don't get base.tv either but that is just my opinion.

Congrats on a sale of WorldMusic.tv James, and congrats to the buyer :)
I was the bidder # 2

Manos asked on my summer sales thread if I could list the prices that my names went for at SEDO - these were the ones that people preferred to hold auction at SEDO rather than via NP.

The auction is still not over as far as two of my names are concerned. Dove.tv has 6 hours left and is still sat at $60. More interestingly, http.tv has around one hour to go and stands at $235

The results of the ones that have finished, I have to confess, are really very bad:

base.tv $160
confidential.tv $60
ecological.tv $80
experiments.tv $110
fairytale.tv $130
firm.tv $260
hippy.tv $79
interesting.tv $80
nose.tv $60
operation.tv $110
quit.tv $130
worldmusic.tv $412

If Iโ€™ve gained anything from this I would suggest that, as far as the domaining aspect is concerned, .TV may not have the legs it really needs to be profitable for those interested in investing in .TV names on the flip - and hoping to make a profit.

I realised that the only people playing at the SEDO event would be domainers - and we all know what cheap-arses they are - but I did think one or two of the โ€˜developerโ€™ crowd, like myself, would be around as well. Sadly, I got the โ€˜oneโ€™ rather than the โ€˜twoโ€™ so prices were low - either that or it looks like everyone has had their fill of .TV names for the moment.

As far as domaining is concerned, with people like Antonis dropping big names and even questioning whether UK.tv would be a bargain at a premium free $10k, and some of the bigger geo guys selling off, or dropping, in spades, I think we may be in for quite a lean patch.

BUT that is on the pure domaining side.

If we look at .TV as something it always has been - the televisual niche side of the internet - excellent for developers wanting to create an instant โ€˜easy-to-rememberโ€™ name and message, then I still very much believe in the .TV โ€˜brandโ€™

- actually I donโ€™t need to believe, as such, because I see them being used, quite successfully, by hundreds of large companies and groups everywhere, and everyday. Only today I was looking at the English Football Association who use FA.tv for their videos.

As they say in the Highlander films - โ€œTHERE CAN ONLY BE ONEโ€ - and in .TV it appears that the names that developers really want - are the ones that can not be replaced - the 'one of a kinds' - and these are the names that will always, always, be extremely valuable - as long as you never try and sell them to domainers.

If anyone has examples of these โ€˜one of a kindโ€™ type are things like DIY.tv - London.TV - Vacation.tv etc then I would advise keeping hold.

DOn't firget the auction is still running and HTTP.tv is quite quirky..

Firstly have to admit that your names at this auction were very very good.
Personally i took ecological but i liked others also.
The finals prices imo do not reflect the whole .tv market for some reasons.

Auction was an August one and many people are still on vacation.

Finishing time was very early morning for USA and i think there are the most possible buyers from.

The fact that almost all names (were started and) finished at almost same time made difficult the task to hit more than 1-2 as could not balance our budget hitting all together.

Generally speaking for .tv have to admit that after 3 months where i looked closely i came to conclusion that have to own a good number of domains and sell in good prices a small number of them as can not predict what is asked for the market.

Closing have to thank you once again for your business

real domainers never take vacations. :)

those who really want names dont wait till the very last second to bid, esp if that end time is past their nappynap. serious bidders have a limit in mind and they put it in and dont go nuts and get into bidding wars when outbid. those who do get into frequent bidding wars will sooner or later hit the wall and inflict terrible damage to their roi.

the economy as a whole is still a wreck and now it looks like the recover isnt going to happen. not for quite awhile at least. and if the governments keep printing money to throw at the problem in the end it could cause a true collapse far worse then a mere recession. these are perilous times my friends

Jimbo,
I am sorry to see that the names did not sell to your auctions. I think it is two fold:

a) Money is tight and so less discretionary income to spend on items that are not of necessity. It will only get worse before it gets better. Interest rate risk, currency risk, housing, unemployment, etc. Double dip seems highly likely.

b)What marketing did Sedo do for the auction? The platform is not geared for end users without the proper process to help inform them. This could be one of the reasons for lack of results, bids, etc.

Just my two cents.

Best,
A

Great note mr black. Can't REP because apparently I do too much.

I didn't get the name I sent to sedo which shows you I'm a cheap arse.

My problem is that right now I'm neither a domainer or a developer

I think the name I put at sedo is worth far more than it got - I think at $500 it would have been a good buy.

I will regret skipping it as much as you selling.

The future is there for the taking. Time to Engage.
