.mobi Why would this be??

I looked up a name I liked on Godaddy and found that it is available. So I went ahead and regged it. Then I received this e-mail in my postbox.

The following domain name has failed to be registered:

whatever.MOBI (fictititious name)

Error: Could not get contacts needed for adding domain:

We will evaluate this error and retry the registration
if appropriate.

If we are unable to successfully register the domain
name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please
allow one business day for the refund to be processed.

Please contact GoDaddy.com if you need any further
assistance:

So what does this mean? I see the domain is still listed as available so it's not regged by .Mobi Tld as premium. What could be the reason for all this?

That's happened to me before. Chances are that the name is already regged by someone else, even though godaddy is showing it as available. Happend to me many times. Just wait for them to try again and see if you get it or not.

Ps. Strange the name I tried to reg still shows up as available with Moniker and other registrars as well.

I think what he's saying is that the name is a premium, but I don't know how he knows that because you haven't divulged the name here.

If it was a Premium then it woukd show up as "Already Taken" and the Whois would show that it was registered in the name of MOBI.MTLD
But it does'nt and I checked with a couple of other registrars and the name shows up as available with all of them.

I'll re-post my last comment. Looking at he whois it shows up as premium name. The "sorry if already posting" part refers to someone had already answered my question before my answer to binary's thread question, is it available- no it's a premium name!

By the way the name I want is taken in .COM and here are the .Com stats on SEDO

But the Google search for this name is only 576. Weird. How does all this up?


PS. Oh Panman, I get you now but the name is not WHATEVER though. That was just an excample but I see now that in fact WHATEVER is regged and is a PREMIUM held by .Mobi Mtld. I just picked WHATEVER as an excample not knowing that it was really a .Mobi Premium.
Weird and a co-incidence.

There was a thread about this last year. It's a bug in the mtld whois software. I tried to register contact.mobi and host.mobi because it said they were available but they weren't.

There probably are more name like that still out there.

no... godaddy was buggy last 2 days. something was off. I sent thru 2 lists that I KNOW were available and GD did not let some of them thru. even after multiple attempts... I could not sit back and wait because it mad eme paranoid, LOL, so I regged quickly thru another registrar the entire list at $15 vs GoDaddy's $11.26 and got every single one thru the other registrar... even 3 that GoDaddy said were successful thru them... then today GoDaddy emailed me with refund info for the names it could not process.

it was not cool... so from now I wil check immediately after registering that the name is in MTLD's whois system within 1-2 minutes which isa how long it has taken recently, and i fI don't see the name i already paid for... try regging thru another Registrar asap... sort out the refunds later.
