Why is the email subject line more important?

An email subject line is equivalent to your opening greetings when cold calling. Subject lines need to grab the recipient's attention quickly. Subject lines with 50 characters or less result in 12% higher open rates and 75% higher click-through rates than emails with more extended subject lines.

The subject line should communicate precisely what the email is about so the recipient can prioritize its importance without opening it. For example, "Do you have a sec?" is unclear since the reader will keep opening the email or answer to figure out what you want.

Soon as someone says "hey, do you have a second" or "can I have a few minutes of your time", you're a salesperson. Often, you'll find you aren't offering information of interest...if they REALLY wanted your domain, they'd be hitting you up, than the other way around. Drop an email if you want to (one email, not relentless spam), but be human with your email...human meaning to the point, casual but genuine, likable to the point of deserving a response, and not a salesperson. IMO

Who do i invoice for reading this crap? Less than 50 characters in subject line.
@Eric Lyon lots of information in this post
You say the subject line should communicate precisely yet putting in subject line do you have a sec is unclear so they will open it.
Traded bunch college graduates for kindergarten students. Sold us out imo

We will have a lot less spam if the forum wont allow signature or links in profile for users with less than 50 posts

Yes, the email subject line is very important and it may get someone to OPEN the email but more often than not, that person will still ignore the email.

As with any form of marketing, it's always a numbers game (assuming you are targeting the right audience).

Put the recipient's first name in the subject and ask a question. That gets people's attention. Jim, are you interested in this?
