Hey NamePros 👋

I know — the holy grail is a solid .COM. But in building a gamer-focused marketplace, we chose Allshop.gg over a comparable .com option.

Here’s exactly why, what we learned, and whether it was worth it (so far).

Why .GG?

  • It's instantly recognizable to gamers — "GG" = "good game"
  • Short, clean, brandable
  • Feels native in Twitch/Discord culture
  • SEO-wise, we’re still ranking for “game keys gg” and similar longtails

But yes, I know the cons:

  • Typo risk (people type .com automatically)
  • Harder resale path outside gaming niche
  • Some payment platforms treat ccTLDs with more scrutiny

Q for you all: Would you go niche-TLD-first if your brand was hyper-targeted?

The Results

Our first 60 days:

  • 11.2K visits (mostly organic + forum traffic)
  • 2.6 pages/session
  • 42% CTR on branded search
  • 28% higher conversion on branded queries than our old .com clone

Trust factor? Weirdly strong with the audience — we get feedback like "Oh, .gg? That’s clean. Legit.”
But would a startup investor say the same? Not sure.

Future Strategy

We’re debating:

  • Keeping Allshop.gg as primary domain
  • Acquiring Allshop.com for security/authority
  • Or eventually flipping to a different brand

Have any of you transitioned from a ccTLD to .com? Or flipped a niche TLD for a good ROI?

Key Takeaways

Would love to hear:

  • Your stories with ccTLDs (.io, .gg, .tv)?
  • Pros/cons from a resale standpoint?
  • Would you trust a marketplace more or less on a .gg vs .com?

Let’s compare notes — I’ll even share more backend stats if anyone’s curious.

Hey, thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown — this is super valuable insight, is

Going with Allshop.gg sounds like the right call given your target audience. In gaming culture, .gg has strong brand recognition,

Personally, I’ve seen similar engagement boosts using .io and .tv for developer and streaming-focused projects. The key is audience fit

As for future-proofing:

  • I’d definitely try to acquire the .com if it’s within reach — not necessarily to switch, but to protect your brand and maybe use it for redirects or investor-facing landing pages.
  • Keeping .gg as primaryf

Would love to see more backend stats, especially around bounce rate and repeat visits. Also curious: have you had any trouble with ad networks or payment providers due to the ccTLD?

Great work — it’s awesome to see a brand lean into its niche and win.
