Hey NamePros community 👋

I’m working with a team running a niche digital marketplace targeting gamers, and I recently acquired the domain Allshop.gg.

Here's what we’ve experienced so far—and I’d love to hear if anyone’s tried something similar:

1. Why a niche TLD like .gg?

  • .gg resonates strongly with gamers (originating from “good game”), but I'm curious—how much weight does community sentiment carry vs. trust in branding?
  • In your experience: does a niche ccTLD like .gg limit broader recognition or hinder resale value compared to .com?

2. Early traction via domain alone

We leveraged the name for:

  • Forum mentions within gaming communities
  • Branded social channels
  • Organic SEO around terms like "game marketplace" + ".gg"

So far:

  • Daily searches for “Allshop gg” on Google
  • Click-through rate on branded terms ~42%

Anyone here successfully indexed a marketplace or startup via niche TLD branding alone?

3. Resale potential of brandable niche domains

We’re considering long-term strategy:

  • Hold Allshop.gg as core brand, or
  • Expand to Allshop.com → flip, or
  • Maintain both?

Have you seen successful flips or multi-TLD branding strategies using ccTLDs for niche audiences?

Questions for the community:

  1. Would you value a .gg domain differently than a comparable .com? Why?
  2. For brandable ccTLDs, what resale multiples or buyer profiles stand out today?
  3. Any tips on positioning ccTLDs in listings or pitches to potential buyers?

Thanks for any feedback! Happy to reciprocate with metrics or share our branding experiments in return. Always keen on community insight.

Selling in game currency or accounts is usually against the TOS of the companies. Sony sued eBay when eBay didn't want to stop people selling EverQuest platinum via auction.

So with that in mind, I think prospective buyers probably feel like non .coms are to be expected and you want your underground store to be off the radar. Where a .com might be more noticeable or something like that.

As someone who sold $4,000 worth of EverQuest platinum via MySuperSales.com back in 2004, if I were going to buy a site like this, the value to me would be in the site's reputation, marketing and active users. Not to mention the security setup. Would I be just a middleman website like PlayerAuctions.com used to be where I don't have any inventory myself but I am just the marketplace? Or am I like MySuperSales and IGE, where I actually buy wholesale from the players and then resell and deliver to the buyers? All of those things would affect price to me.

Otherwise I'd just snag AfterShop.GG or GamersMarket.GG for Reg Fee and then install my own eCommerce software.
