In the past I have read that dot web will be one of the more successful New Gtlds? But we already have dot net which is basically frowned upon by most domainers .........why will dot web succeed when the other 'neutral' dot net seems doomed ??
~
Will you invest in this extension?

Anything works with a neutral extension.

Making this easier for you. Give me the top 2 keywords that work with .web as an extension.

It will sound better as a hack/keyword than an extension anyway!

I'm not trying to bust your balls, I just want to know what you think really goes with it.

Extension or keyword, there just are not many that work with it.

The extension .web is bad and the keyword web is bad.

.xyz is just an extension so anything should work fine with it right?

We're going over the same stuff. I said any, sex, hotels etc. Anything that sold well in .com, .net. Any, Anything, don't think I could be more clear.

.xyz, it is neutral. Anything can go with it. Problem is, 3 syl... worst letters. More popular in China, propped up by cheap regs.

"The extension .web is bad and the keyword web is bad."

And you would say that about .com and .net.

You don't like .web, ok but you like .online. Where the sales at? That's what it's about if you're a domainer, selling domains.

Do you think if that extension is not successful will able to survive for 10 years. Maybe lot of them will close down, 5 years from now we'll have the answer.

If it is not successful, I am well positioned as well, with my .coms, .orgs, kw.cctlds or LL.cctlds, LLL.cctlds getting more demand for the limited supply.

If they are successful (getting the crumbles left after .com, .net, .org, .cctlds), then, plenty of time to get in without incurring renewals/maintenance for 5-10 or more years.

While I still believe .top will be above all TLDs one day (slow but stable grow), I am sure that .web will beat .net because it sounds simply stronger.

Ok now we're getting somewhere.

sex.web
hotels.web

They will be read as two keywords. That is my point about the extension. It's not really as neutral as .com or even .xyz

People are going to read the string together, not as something neutral.
Just because something sold in .com with the keyword web in it, doesn't mean that something similar with .web at the end will sell. The examples that recons posted all use web as a keyword, which will be the same way people will try to use .web

I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with .web the term is dated, like cyber, when it is released it will not be for you, anything decent will be held back as premium, this is not a cheap extension.

If you want to play in this space, then you better brush up on premium renewals, and figure out a strategy on how to pay for them every year, against low end user sell thru, and no ppc.

.web is in fact even more naturalness than .com because all .websites are using the web while far not all websites made for .commercial purpose.

What new extension that has come out is a success?
They all seem to have low sales compared to .com both in dollar amounts and numbers.
They all seem to be unknown to the general public and used very little by the general public.
More and more extensions will not help.

The general public doesn't think commercial when they hear or think of .com
It's a brand unto itself.

Again we already have .website sooo....

Ok, but I am curious xyz vs web

Why is xyz better? You didn't give any reasons why you felt that way.

My reasons for .web:
most watched
probably will have most regs, chance for more development
1 syllable, word people know
Would bet it gets more than 8% of its regs from the U.S., something xyz is struggling with

I can't even come up with 1 reason why a business would prefer a .xyz over a .web if those were the only 2 options.
.WEB IS BETTER, .XYZ will merge with abc, like what google did, abc.xyz, there will be an extension .abc, but is not the same thing... .xyz is the end of the alphabet...
abcmail.xyz
abckids.xyz
abcschool.xyz
, i see it as a kids extension, or dictionary related becouse of the alphabet, so google did a smart move there by acquiring abc.xyz, abcWORD.xyz
i prefer
shop.web than shop.xyz, but if your kids,or alphabet related I prefer abcshop.xyz then shop.web,..diffrent in roduct or idea projection..

I remember in 2000 when Image Online Design applied for .web and made many appeals to ICANN to increase the name space.
In the year 2000 AD 'web' was in the public vernacular. Most famously for surfing the web. World wide web www. It is redundant in 2016 we now dont use www. and say in common parlance, 'google it' or 'look on the net' or 'are you online'. Its a redundant non cool term and as such is being wildly over valued by domainers and registry(s), we just cant help ourselves. Need to view it from the public perspective, who don't care about all these new gTLDs, they just want simple known knowns. .com ccTLDs

I would invest some risk capital in .web if I thought I would be able to register something good to the left of the dot. But i know they will be long gone (reserved) . I'm not bullish enough to buy them in the aftermarket.

so google did a smart move there by acquiring abc.xyz, abcWORD.xyz

It would have to be WORD.abc.xyz not abcword.xyz otherwise they would have to buy millions of domains.

What sounds and looks better? Shop.xyz Shop.online or Shop.web

.online wins both as an extension and keyword! Sorry it just does.

IMO .web just screams desktop PC Internet experience. It's a mobile-first Internet nowadays so it's kind of difficult to get excited about .web.

I'm just going to put a check in the mail and send it to Rick. That might get me better ROI then buying a .web!

Oh I forgot, no one uses checks or the mail anymore, at least like they used to.

No one will be able to register a '24 times web' - .web domain ;)

.top successfull*
.xyz successfull*
.web will be also, 100 %
* > 1 million registrations = definetely 'successfull' in my view (question is 'successfull for whom?')

Every single registration (except free domains) is (was) a sale.

Low compared to .com of course - but it's simply not compareable (time).
Unknown to the general public and... ...because of same reason (time).

I would love to see every word / letter / number / digit / sign from every language becoming a new TLD and thats what will happen in X or XX years.
Than all this discussions will have an end because everything is possible.

I know. I just copy and pasted it over and over because I know you will being going for the longest web.web

I thought it was pretty funny though. I'm trying to lighten the mood a little. Everyone on here is so passionate about domains and wants to get their points across and have everyone agree with them. I know I do.

Carry on
