Why are you not invested in .tv?

I am trying to understand why some domainers are not leveraging the .tv extension to diversify their portfolios. If you can share your thoughts with me, I would greatly appreciate it and I will begin a summarized list for everyone to review here.

Like so many .tv enthusiasts on this site, I credit the .tv extension for bringing me into the world of domaining and I have since invested in .com and .mobi.

I have learned a tremendous amount and continue to learn more every day, but I want to learn more why others are staying away. Is it that you feel the .tv extension is hype, is it overpriced in your opinion, are the returns not as great as the ones you are seeing in other areas, or the short term outlook not lucrative enough to justify the investment (but you possibly see the potential .tv has in the future)?

I genuinely want to know.

High reg prices, weird price structures, Unknown future renewals rates.

You have to remember that .tv was only relaunched by DM on May 01 this year. Since then we have been able to create our own sites with the free Me.tv tools and there have been two updates to improve these! Monetization is coming! DM have even incorporated a "Display Ads" into the channel appearance tools to be ready for this.
I personally am prepared to wait for them to get it right before they give us the tools to monetize. I don't want them to rush something out just too keep us satisfied. I prefer they take their time and get some good ads and big companies involved.

I haven't invested in .TV because of .com :D

I am already trying to get some free time to watch TV or take a pee after managing my .com portfolio. If I still go on regging more names then I will be making loss instead of profits as I will not be able to pay any attention towards it.

Thanks.

High reg fee being a big deterant.

The fact that .tv is not .com is the other big one.

I do find that .tv is growing on me and I could sooner see myself developing a .tv than most extensions but I'm not a developer and not in a rush to become one.

I have to say the pricing structure when it first came out....wasn't priced for the small guys in the business...

Whoa, a blanket statement???? :o This strikes me as odd, you usually say a bit more than just "won't work"! Can you elaborate on why you think the .TV is not going to function as intended?

I like the .tv extension personally. I've always been fond of branding it as tv, rather than the country code of Tuvalu. I see no reason why it can't work... Even up north in Canada, I've been seeing television commercials for companies using .tv addresses.

I haven't made much of an investment, mainly because of the high renewal costs. I don't mind paying a large sum up front, but having recurring payments each year is a bit scary for someone who would like to develop their names, rather than flip them for a profit.

Wow, I need to step out of the tv forum once in awhile......

IntelBank.....about ads on me.tv: I have done it. And checked their TOS, it isn't against it.

I have put link and banners on both triallawyer.tv and naughtynice.tv. As a test I put html into the blogs and it worked. I then put used the code for text links in the link section. Since the 12th, on just one of my blog content items on triallawyer.tv I have had 85 impressions and 23 Click throughs and a couple signups for that product. Just the 29% click through rate was impressive to me, but I will take the commision as well.

My banners/content was from Commision Junction-pretty much straight html. So even though enom hasn't started monetizing their own me.tv setup, I have taken the liberty of doing it myself.

So for all of you not wanting to get in because of that.....take a look, I have done it, and it does work.

Interesting side note: Best performing text link is "Online Divorce" link on NaughtyNice.tv.

A few reasons, The average net surfer, Doesn't even know the extension exsists, To get nice traffic, And it is the average net surfer that we want to view our websites right? Most don't typin .net-.info - .org .... Much less .Tv , Now on the other hand, If we are talking about advertising a .Tv website, Sure it will get traffic, But so will any other extension,If people google "Cars" And you are running adwords, Your site is what they are looking for, It doesn't matter what extension you have, You will get traffic, Make sense? .com is the extension to type in for most USA average web surfers.

With video sharing, broadband, and infomercials so big, the base price for a .tv is really a steal.. the trick is to find a niche, reg it, and develop it IMO. That said, I have a few in mind but haven't regged any ... yet.

Where else can you get a domain with web hosting + all the tools for $24.95/yr??
Is that @ enom? How do you get tools + hosting too? I placed a dummy order for a .tv at enom and it was $44.95 which included no hosting or any mention of tools.

You need to go to Enom.tv (not enom.com)and buy from there, $24.99 for non premium names, and you get all the free social tools to build your site.

Also just want to add that as a DOT TV believer, it is really interesting reading everyones thoughts on this.

Excellent thread!

Pricing is harsh and the aftermarket is not as big as .com
Hence, i stay away from .TV

It was at enom.tv where I saw the $44.95 price :-/

I was interested in .tv, to the point where I phoned up my credit card company and made sure that a large transaction would be allowed through without triggering the fraud prevention. I tried to reg a premium name, but the enom website gave me a blank order reference and no name in my account. I then phoned up my credit card company again to cancel the transaction.

Getting burned like that on my first .tv has given me a general bad feeling about .tv, so I'm not interested anymore.

.TV is one of nicest ccTLD IMO. Even though 90% of my portfolio are .com I'm a fan of some ccTLDs.

I only have 3 .TVs (WildVideo.TV ~ WildVideos.TV ~ PowerPoker.TV) and decided not reg. more due to the pricing structure of the extension. I just don't like the idea of registration fee could be a lot higher the following year.

I prefer my .web.com's cheaper travel.tv $50,000 a year or travel.web.com $20 a year....sex.tv $100,000 a year or sex.web.com $20 a year....
