This is especially for newcomers to the forum and .tv domains.

Fiction .tv is new
Fact .tv domains have been available to reg marketed as "TV" since 99/2000

Fact .tv is not and will not become bigger than .com. A competitve alternative ?Yes Bigger ? NO

Fact .tv is not a hot stock in a bull market REG any domain and sell for big profit. You need good domains

Fact most good domains are already regged or have a premium price. You may think your adjective and adverb domains are great but in reality without a development plan they are reg fee domains

FACT Richard Rosenblatt and Demand Media are a for profit company looking to maximize their shareholder value. The tools and promotion should help everyone who owns a .tv but you need to do some work too sales will not just happen overnight.

Fact TV is the most recognized acronym in the world crossing all language barriers.

Fact if you can, get the ****TV.com to go with your .tv for your best development projects

Know why you are invested in .tv stick to your niche and your plan. Do not get caught up in reading a thread about a .tv sale and go reg an inferior domain in the same area. Stick to your niche. If its Geo's look for geo's, if its Adult stick to adult, if it is a couple areas stick to them. Do not get trapped in the HOT THREAD OF THE MOMENT.

Quality over quantity look for a good domain spend a little $$$ rather than reg 10 that you will drop in a year.

Demand Media should help promote tv as the VIDEO or Rich media extension. Look for domains that can utilize this and NO not everything needs a video, Clothespins.tv a site with video about Clothespins is not a good idea and neither are 10,000 other mundane topics.

What works in .com does not work in .tv you cannot go as far down the quality line and still make a xxx sale or even xx. If you have no development plan for a new reg, DON'T reg it find another one.

If you have questions ask here THIS is the Center of DOT TV NATION

This is a great post, you should really treat each reg as a "Brand Acquisition" and understand your position on the name and the development potential of it first.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

All people interested in .tv should read this post. PLEASE, let's all keep it real and focus on development and not rampant speculation for the sake of rapid price appreciation.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the May 1 release and hype but I cringe when I see someone post "Hey, I just bought clothespins.tv, please give me an appraisal".

Make this post a sticky and keep it at the top of this thread.

Develop. Develop. Develop!

Let's get excited about developing our .tv domains and then we can enjoy traffic, revenue AND price appreciation.

Not to debate it, but I don't believe he was saying that a TV HAS to be developed. He was saying that you should stick to your niche. As in, if you want to specialize in GEO, then try to buy those, develop what you can, and agressively market the rest.

I think that if you only say to develop, develop, develop, then you are no longer a domainer, you are a developer and should dump all excess domains and develop your core ones.

This is a business. The ONLY way to stay in business is to make money. If you are losing money, then your business model is not very good.

I will develop a couple of mine, but the majority are for sale, which is how it should be for my business model.

In the end, it is what works best for your business model.

You are right but I guess maybe what "develop, develop, develop" idea could mean is, if you buy a name, even if you dont develop it, you should have an idea how the name could be developed properly, and the idea should make sense, it should not be a far out stretch, unless of course you are trying to break new ground and do something totally outrageous in which you should pursue your dream.

Some people might choose a name that does not at first seem great, but if they have a great concept that name could turn out to be the most valuable one when paired with the concept.

Sorry, yes, that is what I meant as well.

If I buy a name, in my head, I can see what it looks like. I try very hard not to buy crap names, because that is exactly what they are and they will likely not resell unless the concept is VERY good.

If I buy newschannel.tv, then the name speaks for itself, and as a reseller, I don't need to develop it to make a decent profit. If I buy briansbigtoybox.tv, and am only wanting to resell it, then that makes me stupid because the concept is really vague and is only in my head, so it is practically worthless.

Thank everyone for the kind words, and Showbiz correct you do not have to develop every one, but they should be good names bought for resell mostly names you purchased in the secondary market at say low xxx, looking to sell for High xxx to midx, xxx The jist was a new reg unless it is a "gem" and there are a few, but for the most part will not be, reg it for $25 sell it for $2500 in a short period

What I like about this starting post is that it encourages everyone to have some common sense.

If you hand reg a .tv domain and have an idea to develop it but are still willing to entertain offers, great. But I hate to see bad hand regged domains that people immediately want 2000% profit on.

What's wrong with taking a 100% or 200% profit and let someone else make some money or develop a site.

I just don't want to see hype turn into greed and greed turn into a bubble. I've seen it with stocks. I've seen it with beanie babies (not that I bought any) and other collectibles.

If .tv is hyped and speculation runs rampant, there will be a bubble and the bubble will burst and .tv will be tainted forever and dead forever and that hurts us all.

So, it is in our best interest to be rational and this post encourages us to do that.

Anyone want to buy some beanie babies?
