i got my hands on a copy of windows 7 and upgraded. i have to say, it's a pretty nice design, can't imagine going back to vista.

just a few issues.....
first of all, when installing the os, win 7 didn't detect all of my drivers right.....instead, it installed generic drivers. for example, i have an nvidia graphics card on my laptop....but win7 installed a generic graphics driver....that means that i had to hunt down the video driver myself...oh well...

my video isn't great atm....i see little blips and flickers every now and then, but i can live with it.

the one thing i miss from windows vista is the sidebar. first of all i have a 17 inch screen, and i don't need all that width for a program..so i put that sidebar up kinda reduce the width of the screen....it really helps because it prevents the scroll bar from being at the edge of the screen........i had different widgets installed on the sidebar. a clock, calendar, organizer, etc

on the plus side, things are running a heck of a lot faster. before, it took about +5 minutes for my computer to load up...now it's up an running a lot faster

:bingo::bingo:

As soon as my vista powered laptop dies I am buying another Mac and will never ever purchase another lead weight from Bill Gates. Pure trash dressed up as something useful. I can't believe I waited as long as I did to buy one in the first place. The time saved more than makes up for the extra purchase price.

already have xp and vista on my current computer, gonna wait a few months let any bugs get fixed if any then I'll just grab or build a brand new computer with a fresh install of windows 7 on it, about time for an upgrade anyway.

I've upgraded Vista to Windows 7, yes. However I dual boot this machine, and use Ubuntu primarily.

Still nice to upgrade though, I don't have to worry about awful speed/performance when I have to boot into Windows :)

I have been using Windows 7 for some time now since I got the RTM early (TechNet Subscriber). But yeah, Windows 7 is very nice. For those of you who are worried about drivers and wether or not Windows 7 will be compatible with your system... if you are already running Windows Vista, you will be able to run Windows 7. Windows 7 will operate great with the drivers you were using for Vista.

Also please keep in mind that you cant use good old Bill as the blame for anything now. He isn't the one thats calling all the shots. Steve Ballmer I believe is the man in charge over there at Microsoft right now. Bill is the one going out doing all kinds of things for charity and trying to make the world a better place. Gates may be chairman but has transitioned out of the day to day operation of Microsoft so that he could spend more time on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

actually, i had a major issue w/win 7 that i think i fixed for the time being....

my screen used to flicker a lot, and then, 1/2 of the screen would become distorted....

i have a toshiba laptop...and was having issues w/my nvidia graphics card. after days of googling the issue, i was able to find a driver that seemed to help for the time being....

ahhh windows....you tried your best

lol

I have not upgraded to Windows 7. I'm a very proud Ubuntu user, myself.

The new Ubuntu 9.10 should be getting released real soon if not already. I will definitely be giving that a try. I am a very big fan of linux. Windows is good for everyday desktop computing and linux is great for server environments. However linux does make a good desktop environment as well. But, in my opinion it is still a work in progress in the attempt of attracting new desktop users. I must say that it is getting there though. :)
