Who are the big players and what are their backgrounds?

I see names like Elequa, dropped around, have heard a bit about some mysterious character in Hong Kong and another in the Middle-East (guy who bought up the last of the 3LLL infos last winter), have seen Yaacov buying .us for 10Gs and imagine him to be a player, and also the guy down in Florida who was profiled in DN Journal, but know little else. Anyone like to comment on who the big players are and what their strateies might be? (ie hoarding 3LLL names to control supply demand, running sites for ppc/affiliate income etc.). Any tidbit will be appreciated.

I too like his thinking and i would like to do that too but money is a big problem, not all of us come from rich families like him :)

I've personally benefitted as well from his hard work, as the remaining supply of 3-letter gTLD's available for resale has dwindled and therefore the prices have grown and continue to do so in a very strong way. As he buys names and essentially retires them from resale, the supply lowers and the demand pushes the prices higher!
I am also benefitting from the supply/demand effects of his purchase and in O/P was not referring to "hoarding" names in a negative way, although probably a poor choice of words. I remember the day that all of the .info 3LLL went: Feb 22, 2004 (in my time zone). The day before, I had cherry picked 2 names (UKY.info, UAZ.info) from the full 3LL.info avail list that .edu had posted here. This was probably the only time I've ever beaten a big player to the punch, (and this was a case of sheer luck/coincidence, anyways). If only I had known... but hey, one can always wish for more. I'm happy w/ what I got. B-)

there are a lot bigger people in the domain market than elequa.

he buys 3 char infos, biz, and a few keyword .coms . some developed some directed to a search portal.

if your looking for that aspect of the domain market the biggest players would be companies like cnet as someone mentioned the owner of sex.com or people like rick swartz with porn.com.

bigger than them, are those who use domains for their traffic, expired or typo. ultsearch as everyone knows, nameadmin, qsrch (new.net) which has bought up 200,000+ traffic domains in the last 6 months , henry chan, john zucharini, etc

having few thousand 3char info and biz domains is no going to do much, considering these extensions dont get type ins other than speculative. do you think that makes elqua more of a player than qsrch for example that has 200,000 .coms with actual traffic and monetises it ?

most of the big players, you won't know about.

Rich daddy.
If not for that he would be reg'ing the likes of eg carinsurancedness.net...like many here.
Sure helps to have almost unlimited funds buying everything up that he likes tho - even if he is a Johnny-come-lately eh?

I really wonder where all of elequas funds come from...does he just print his own money or something? must be really nice to just have thousands and thousands of domain at your fingertips..and famous .coms as well!

"I'm not ever selling any"
LOL. Ya sure if you believe that...
Everyone has a price. You telling me if he rec'd an offer of $200M for domainname.com he wouldn't sell??
Oh but he's an artist yada yada. BWAAHHAAHAA

I think the whole "I'm not ever selling any" thing kind of sucks though...what if you were a legitimate company and really needed that 3 letter .com or something like that..a little UNFAIR if you ask me...

Keep on kissing the founding members of the lucky sperm club aka elequa, chris chena et al.
Seems like most posters here either don't have much biz acumen or ask too many questions.

Where the hell do you get the nerve to make a comment like that?

Have you ever talked to elequa?

He is probably the nicest guy I've done business with thus far on the internet.

He has great taste in names and does not over pay for names at all.

You are pretty sick to make a post like that and I probably can take a wild guess on who you are.

Chris Chena seems like a cool guy too but I've never done any business with him to say much on that, however I am pretty impressed with some of his work.

Get a life.

Dot-Biz

No TLD will likely become a household word like the Dot-Com. It is an American icon. Having said that, I hoped that one day the Dot-Biz ones would take off as well because I was fortunate enough to get refi.biz. The mortgage refi business is a money maker and I have made some bucks from my site refinancing loans. Come on Dot-Biz. Dot-Biz...Dot-Biz...Dot-Biz. I wonder what mine is worth.
