Who do you know that's really a big domain buyer. I'd qualify this by saying they could spend in excess of $100,000 per year. Most people I read about are spending $10-100 per name on the secondary market. Unless they're buying a whole lot of domains, I can't see there being that many big fish. Am I wrong?
Who are they?
Thanks for stopping by.

There seems to be alot of big fish in the pond !

BuyDomains, NameAdmin, Marchex, Eliqua, Chris Chena, Internet REIT are a few I have heard of - There will be many more.

Some of these people spend in excess of $100,000 per name - and often too D-: Bonkers seems to be one of the biggest spenders recently.

I'm sure there are many more - interesting article http://www.startupjournal.com/ecommerce/ecommerce/20051118-kesmodel.html

.....................................................

Internet REIT (iREIT), a leading supplier of high-value Internet traffic to advertisers, has recently aquired Netster.com web portal and major portions of the Netster domain name portfolio. Netster is the latest in a series of strategic acquisitions for iREIT, which has acquired over 50 portfolios of Internet traffic in the past fifteen months, including such high-value domains as Bands.com, OfficeSupply.com and AfricanAmericans.com. The addition of the Netster portfolio gives iREIT more than 400,000 domain properties under management and brings the company’s total portfolio of traffic up to 50 million visitors per month.

.............................................................

heres another one - Oversee.net

Oversee.net, a technology-driven media company, today announced it has acquired 10 domain portfolios over the last two months. The Company continues to aggressively build its portfolio of successful domain names and then quickly monetizes them. Oversee monetizes more than one million domain names per month and has more than 100 million unique visitors per month. The Company owns DomainSponsor, the industry leader in domain monetization.

Commenting on the increase in transactions, Lawrence Ng, Chief Executive Officer of Oversee.net said, “Oversee has accelerated its program to purchase domain portfolios.

Well I'm not a big fish or a big guy, but with my latest purchases you can say I qualify for over 100k in purchases on domains per year! I've actually spent more in the last 6 months.

The first domain that I ever sold for profit was htmltalk.com in February of 2006. :tu:

Ive spent about 10k this year on domain names - All of the money ive spent was re-invested from a sale earlier this year. So far the investment is paying off, offers I have recieved are well over this mark, but I think im holding onto most of these until about next year. My spending has gone down... I was spending about 1k a month and now Im just taking it easy, the cash flow has gone down somewhat as well which is hurting. But who knows... show me a great find and I'll bite!

Rick Schwartz (do not know if that is the right spelling), known as the "domain king" and one of the biggest "fish", has a net worth according to another poster of $20 Million. If that is true, or even close, then this is truly a small pond. That kind of money, although far far more than I will ever see, is almost nothing in the larger scheme of things.

"... Oversee monetizes more than one million domain names per month and has more than 100 million unique visitors per month. ... "
Do the math - that is an average of 100 uniques a month per domain. Either they are buying near-junk or I am missing something.

I do see a number of investment groups looking into this market - this is one of the things I expect to really pay off in the LLLL.COM area. Eventually the only way to buy a half-way good domain will be to pay $$$$+ to one of the big boys. The real estate analogy, again.
