Which Domain Should I use for My Landing Page?

I'm in the process of developing a landing page, navigable directly from the Whois Records, for the domains that I wish to sell (or that I'm thinking of selling).

This would NOT be a page that would be likely stumbled upon via direct navigation or domain search. I already have a sales page. However, I acquired my sales domain when I was a newbie, so it isn't really that great for putting into a Whois record.

This landing page would be for those who search my names via Whois, and this landing page would link to my regular sales page. If I can do it, I will have a query box on the landing site that will gather information from the potential buyer and email it to me.

For the custom domain to the landing page, I have regged two possible domains, a .net and a .com:

1. ThisDomainMayBeForSale [dot] net (the .com is already registered by someone who is using it as a redirect)

and

2. DomainMayBeForSale [dot] com

Right now, the landing page I have developed so far is on blogspot:

DomainMayBeForSale [dot] blogspot [dot] com (As of this post, no ads, just a construction post). I plan to put the index to my sales page on the frame--maybe make it into a blogroll. I'm still tinkering.

The title of the blog is "This Domain May Be For Sale," which matches the .net exactly.

For domainers, the term in the .net is more widely used and, therefore, more standard. However the .com is shorter, and I could set up the email to This [at] DomainMayBeForSale [dot] com. This email (not yet created) would become the official email for my sales domains.

Although I prefer the .net, I'm just afraid users would default to the .com, although from the Whois record itself, that might not be a problem.

In your opinion, which domain would you use for this landing page: 1 or 2?

Thanks for any help!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I would go for DomainMayBeForSale dot com.

I think it does not make much of a difference if a person is visiting from the whois lookup. They would just be copying and pasting the url from whois lookup. But a .com would be useful if they want to revisit your landing page at a later date.

But rep added for explaining this strategy. You explained it in great detail. Maybe, I can emulate this at a later time :)

Why don't you go with a multiple hyphen domain in this case ?

DomainMayBeForSale.com

Domain-May-Be-For-Sale.com

If you ask me, the hyphen domain is much easier to read in this case and that's what you want, right ?

You could also use the domain as the name servers, therefore making the domains even more visible to the whois visitor that they might be for sale.

ns1.Domain-May-Be-For-Sale.com
ns2.Domain-May-Be-For-Sale.com

my 2 cents

Thanks, Andr3w. Your 2 cents is worth a lot (IMHO).

You are absolutely right. For my purposes, those hyphens make a lot of sense, so I have regged it, and I still have the unhyphenated version. Normally, those hyphens would make me run for the hills, but since I'm not looking to flip it, "value" doesn't matter.

Also, nameservers are often capitalized, so the hyphens (again) are a plus.

Someday, when servers become simple and "Nameservers for Dummies," I'll have a great domain for them.

All this is still in progress, but I have added a Domain Query box widget to the (still) blogspot address:

DomainMayBeForSale[dot]blogspot[dot]com

I will soon do the custom domain to the site, but I'm still mulling over the three domains that I now have:

DomainMayBeForSale.com

ThisDomainMayBeForSale.net

Domain-May-Be-For-Sale.com

Once I choose the custom domain address, I will redirect the other two domains to the site (probably masked).

I think I may use the hyphenated domain for the email address (This[at]Domain-May-Be-For-Sale[dot]com), but I'm still weighing the pros and cons of that. This email would be just for the sale domains and not my keepers.

Maybe this is a crazy idea, but I'm trying not to overthink this too much.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!
