If the person wants to come out of the closet, they will do so....

back to Godaddy - It was my first love in 2002 and I never left. When ever I try new ones throuh purchases etc I always end up transferring the to GD.

It is also a + when selling. Everybody has a GD account. Dont hate them cus they are big now. They run a tight business model any investor would appreciate.

+ you gotta love the godaddy girl...:)

I have a question please. I often hear negative reports on this board about godaddy in general and about their security in particular.

I have been using them and have never had any hiccups.

What specific security concerns do folks have, particularly if you have your domains on registrar lock?

Thanks

I wish someone would explain how and why one registrar (like Moniker) could be more "safe" than another.

The secrecy on this thread is very suspect.

"PM me". "Check my blog". "Check out other forums". "Email with the appropriate word in subject". "The cat strikes at midnight". I sleep at might with my domains tucked away in bed at Moniker"

It's all rather silly and reminds me of grade school. Whatever happened to just regging a freakin' domain without without having to be part of a "good 'ol boy network" or a secret society or the "in" crowed?

Namecheap and registerfly for me I have no issues with either...
I have no love for godaddy

When one looks at the list of possible registrars, there are so many of them. In this forum GD, NC, + Moniker repeatedly come up as the domainers registrar of choice. It doesn't really matter which of these 3 is selected to register a domain portfolio. They are all good by reputation and after that it is just a matter of personal choice or even use all three seems OK. The domainers at risk are those who ill-advisedly use yahoo or 1+1 or some other cheap junk. The one registrar which seems to teeter between pro and anti reputation based on reported issues is regfly. Re abandoning GD I don't see the point, though some throw a hissy fit over their spammy-style offers.

Antonis, Godaddy has a habit of tagging domains as "spammer domans" and locking them out of access until proven otherwise". Even if you are not a spammer, you might fall prey to their antics and end up spending up to hundreds of dollars just to get your domain back.

Registerfly: Made multiple bogus charges to my credit card. Would not respond to my tickets about it even after weeks. Ended up having to dispute the bogus charges to get my money back. Then, they locked my account and took all my domains from me even though I paid for all of them - every single one of them - about 20 domains.

Oh yeah, registerfly is really great to deal with <sarcasm>.

If you value your domains, you shouldn't use registerfly for your reg.

JMO and experience.

I use a couple of registrars myself. But here's what I've "observed" as well as
gathered feedback from some of them.

Registrars who charge low prices for .com domains tend to have little to no
incentives to help you if a complex problem arises, especially if your domain's
been hijacked. More often than not, they'll tell you to seek legal advice and
wait 'til an attorney sends them a notice to force the issue.

Now if you know how these things go, have little to no need for support, and
price is the #1 thing for you, then it's fine to stick with go daddy, domainsite,
registerfly, and/or namecheap. But if you expect quality support, expect to
pay extra.

That's where the likes of netsol and moniker can come in. But between the 2,
I'd go with the latter.

And this is coming from someone who's used netsol but hasn't used moniker so
far. I'm going to use moniker soon, just don't have plans yet. ;)

Understandable you and various people will feel that way. But registrars don't
really want people to know their security measures to lessen the likelihood of
someone compromising them.

This I can tell you, though: moniker has the most secure and most number of
security measures I've ever encountered after a little discussion with Monte,
more than gd's and netsol's combined (oops, I think I'm exaggerating. :D). But
they range from password entry to transferring out your domain name.

(Actually Monte revealed a few. You just have to look around hard enough. :))

namecheap or domainsite

both will work

I think domainsite is a great alternative to godaddy or nc

Moniker has usually been regarded as the "best". I call and a real person answers! amazing! They also seem to take more care regarding the saftey of your domains. If something goes wrong I don't want to wait 2-3 days for an email reply or be on hold forever... moniker @6.95 per domain is one of the better deals around!

I also wanted to add that whenever I had to call Moniker the person on the phone seemed like an expert - not some undertraind CS rep that has to check with his supervisor constantly.

I am slowly moving everything from godaddy, I chose a enom reseller account and have no complaints, much easier control panel and none of the ads jumping out at ya.

I hope Dave already answered to this.

Frankly, I regret I ever posted about this subject. It looks like some NPers are not reading properly when I am trying to say that the special pricing is for members of the other DN forum, therefore not valid here. Asking Moniker for price reduction not being part of that forum I consider as cheating; and don't really want that.

I must repeat that if anyone's main concern is price over quality and security, you should check some GoDaddy's loopholes out. Or go with 1+1, Ipower and Yahoo - I am sure they will fit you just fine.

Good luck.

Sorry, but this is very bad asdvice coming form a domainer. Sure you can use Moniker for security. And you can use NameCheap and Godaddy for cheapness and some security. But if you value your domains even slightly, you shoudl never you the 2 regs listed in the quote above. Well, actually, I'm not sure about Ipower, but Yahoo and 1and1 are obviously not regs to use if you are a domainer especially.

IF you have over 100 domains and are willing to transfer them ALL to Moniker, PM a user here called Chipmunk, Chip works for Moniker, PM him tell him how many domains your gonna transfer and ask him how much, i know he was gonna charge us the base rate for .coms, but we have WAY more than 100 and PM him ONLY if you have 100+, i know he was looking for people to move portfolios a while ago.

Thank you

Sin

*THIS* was the essence of my post. *IF* you value your domains at 2.99 each, go with Yahoo/Ipower - you'll lose only 2.99 if anything goes wrong (and most probably it WILL go wrong at some point, taken into account nature of these so-called registrars). *BUT*, if your domains have some more value, go with the registrar charging you more realistic ammounts and at least not working for a loss. The golden rule of economics 'you get what you pay' is working pretty well in domaining too (with exception of some FLY-by-night companies, like everywhere).
I think you'll aggree that the best place for LL.com and/or LLL.com always was and still is NetSol, because what they charge you annually is very small amount, compared to market value of the domain. Althought, since I've knew Moniker, I've started to doubt even this... IF I've had any LLL's, I'll move them to Moniker.

Good luck.
