Where are my backlinks & keywords GOOGLE?

I signed up for Google Webmaster Tools last week. I found it helpful especially with the sitemap submission...BUT...its not accurately displaying 2 very important aspects of SEO and my website. Can someone please shed some light on this for a newb!

Backlinks

When I check the "Links to your site" tab it tells me "we do not know of any links to your site". I know for sure that I have 3-6 links on 2 seperate but related domains. I also have my URL submitted to 1100 different web directories. Now I know (after the fact) that many of these directories may not do me any good and may even have a *no follow line preventing them from being crawled BUT I also know that the 2 other domains will definitely be crawled. My question is: How long do I have to wait for my backlinks to show up in Google and how can I speed it up? (how do I get the other domains crawled sooner than later?

My domain name and my multiple pages of content are both full of key words. I didn't over do it either...BUT in Google Webmaster Tools the Keywords tab says "No data available". Please HELP! Is there a special place in my WordPress mini site that i need to detail my keywords (my meta is filled and I'm using the SEO plug in) - Please help out a super newb.

Backlinks
It depends on how fast those other two sites are crawled and how often your own web site is crawled. Google crawls high quality sites faster and more often than they do new sites and those of unknown quality. An easy way to see when the last time Googlebot crawled those other two sites (specifically the pages that link to your site from those two sites) is to look at Google's cache date for those pages. If you have the Google toolbar installed you can simply navigate to those sites and then in your toolbar click on the dropdown arrow next to the PageRank icon. You'll see "Cached Snapshot of Page". Click on that and at the top it will tell you when the last date / time the page your viewing was indexed.

It is important to know that Google does not show you all of the backlinks pointing to your site in order to obfuscate their algorithms. You can use Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer as an alternative because they show you all known backlinks for your url.

Keywords in WordPress
Google doesn't use the meta-keywords tab for determining which keywords a site and web page is targeting. They use all of the visible content that is indexable on each page of the web site. The key is to make sure your content is indexable and I'd recommend using a w3c validation tool. Often times, broken or malformed html will cause a page to appear to have no content on it at all and its quite likely this is your problem.

Directory work

It can take weeks for the directory to get around to approving your submissions (if ever) and than months for Google to finally index them. Out of the 1100 I'd guess you'd be lucky to have 100 showing up as backlinks in three months.

After adding sites in GWMTs, you will have to wait for sometime before all of the data is available. Backlinks are updated after a week or 2 or may be more.

But you should know that in WMTs, only sample of backlinks are shown. GWMTs show more links than link: operator but still, these are not all the backlinks.

Thanks guys. I still haven;t seen any links or key words in GWMTs but its only been a 1.5 - 2 weeks. The link: search pulls up some of the few directories approved but still nothing in GWMTs. I'll give it another week before I panic.

The W3C validator was a great idea - thank you for that. Most of the erros it shows are minor but I'm going to fix them anyway.

I still have alot to learn but reponses like yours make it alot easier - so thank you!!!

Google webmaster tools is more accurate then the link: command.

3 or 6 links are not much. Maybe they will gather data and then you will be able to see it.

Just wait it out.
