Hey everyone 👋

I’m new to domain investing and just starting to explore this exciting space. It's fascinating to see how digital real estate can hold so much brand power and business potential.

So far, my highest investment in a domain has been $30 — a small step, but an exciting one for me as I learn the ropes.

I’d love to hear from those more experienced in the field:

👉 What’s the largest amount you’ve ever spent on a single domain?
👉 Was it a risky move? A big win? Or a lesson learned?

Feel free to share your story — I’m here to learn from the pros. 😄

$131.

Bought the domain at Flippa at this price because at that time, I was an ignorant newbie and relied on automated appraisals to see if a domain is worth buying. The seller advertised it as having a value of $10,000 on estibot. I thought i was having a good deal and bought it from her. Needless to say, I did not make money from it and auctioned it off at Namepros here if I recall correctly.

Little over 1k from DynaDot auction as I had previously sold 2 similar domains for 16k each so figured since I'm up almost 32k on those 2 I could risk more than I would normally go on a third.

I once spent $59 on a domain on Dropcash. It was a dictionary word, but with a typo. Since I'm dyslexic, I didn't notice it, and I was the only bidder, so I had to pay for it. Fortunately, I was able to sell it at auction for the same price, so it only cost me the commission fee in the end. The moral of the story: always think and double-check before you bid.

Wecome to the club. Did you sell it to someone and at what price? What happens on Namepro, it happened to me years ago and I didn't follow up, it someone agrees to purchase a domain or wins a domain by auction and then doesn't pay?

I actually thought you made a good decision to buy it but it didn't work out. Today I'm seeing that Geoff.ai sold for big bucks. I spend $149 to register Elmore.Ai and I can't even sell it for $2,500. I try to do things logically and there doesn't seem to be any logic in buying and selling domains in 2025 in my opinion.

Thanks for the welcome @Planet9!

As far as I could remember, I did not sell it. As this was a few years ago, it was either expired or won at an auction by other Namepro member for free. The domain was "ShowerPlumbing.com". As of now, it was relisted at Sedo for US$1988. I wish that other domainer best of luck for his sale.

That's something I would do in the past too. It is good logic no matter what anyone says though the me of today would just feel to uneasy about the name. The me of 15 years ago wouldn't hesitate. I wish their was a way the registrar would let you see all the past domains you registered from the beginning & let expire. Instead at Godaddy you have to click each individual payment to see what it was for and it just got too exhaursting. Some of the ones I let expire weren't bad. What I'm waiting for os the next extensions to come around. I think I know what to do if applicable but I don't know to to do it because many of the people on this forum are playing dumb. They don't seem to understand that with a limited budget to play with, you're not going to be a competitive threat to them, but nooo!

To anyone who has spent $500 or more, roughly what percent of these domains have you been able to resel at a profit? I'm guessing at least 50% of the ones you spent over $1,000 and 65-70% of the ones you spent over $10,000.
