I’ve been investing in domains for a while now and recently started reviewing my portfolio based on ROI rather than just sale price. It really shifted how I value certain domains!
So I thought it’d be fun (and educational) to ask:
What’s the single domain you’ve sold that gave you the best return on investment?
(Feel free to share purchase price, sale price, holding time—if you're comfortable.)
Bonus points if you explain:
I'll start:
I hand-registered a .io domain for ~$30 and sold it for $2,200 in under 4 months. Got the buyer via inbound inquiry—no outbound! Since then, I’ve started taking niche tech-related .io domains a bit more seriously.
Looking forward to learning from your stories. Let’s inspire each other to spot the hidden gems!

Bonus points if you explain:
- How you acquired it (hand-reg, drop catch, aftermarket, etc.)
- Why you think it sold
- Would you chase a similar domain again?
