What's the case with dropped domains and majestic links report?

I see many domains PR3 and so that are currently available to be registered from anyone. Some of them still have the PageRank but majestic reports 0 links for some of them.

Since the PR was just updated and there aren't any links to them shouldn't the PR be 0?
Or majesticseo reports 0 for dropped domains, regardless the actual links to it?

Would you register a PR3 domain without any links to it, knowing that google just updated toolbar PR few days ago and the PR is supposed to be real?

Any light on that would be appreciated!

Could be fake PR. The previous owner may have had the domain in a link farm. Then when it expired he pulled the links.

Even if Google just updated PR, who knows how long they've been compiling and sitting on the data. It could go back to when the domain was still registered. They don't seem to care about the integrity of PR figures anyway. While PR is generally consistent with site popularity, the number itself is meaningless in that it doesn't rank you higher. So they don't really care if you are gaming that system. It's there for toolbar users to get an idea of how popular a site is. Nothing more.
