Okay, let me get the facts first.
Kids.us is for kids! In usa!

Both facts. The price is about $250 per year?

IF ITS FOR KIDS, it should be cheap! i don't know many kids (not being in usa) who can afford $250 from their pocker money to make a site!

What was .us thinking when they introduced this? I was going to reg webmaster.kids.us now i am sick at the reg fee costs ....

It is all about money these days I guess they assume that mom and dad will drop the cash but all they want is $$$

at that price, it will not be a success.

it just seems 100% useless. You may askwell not offer it at all!

I just think it would be Much more popular at a price of about $5-10 ! i would consider it for my children if i had any!

Its for sites that are certified as safe for kids. I think you have to have your site approved, or so I thought?

It hasnt really taken off - $250 could only be afforded by very large companies.

It's not for kids to make sites, but for kid-safe sites. The high fee is for the periodic checks to make sure the sites follow the rules.

Probably the real killer is that they are way too restrictive. No links outward to non-kids.us sites, no P2P interation can occur such as forums or chat, since that can't easily be immediately censored to keep it kid safe, and I think there may be rules about what can be advertised to kids as well, even mor restrictive than broadcase TV which is paid for by candy, toy, and sugared cereal commercials.

In truth, cybersitter or netnanny are probably a better choice than putting all content on kids.us.

:bingo: kids.us is the textbook example of too much control, the anti-thesis of internet anarchy. Everyone complains about spammers and scoundrels on the net (with good reason!), but in coming up with measures to save the internet, the kids.us example should be considered. This is what can happen when too much control is in place ... a whole lot of nothing.

I so admire your faith apollo... :)

Kids.us - what a wheez.. a, a handful of sites will soon render the idea useless b, Having web sites that are devoid of realism protects no-one c, the people who come up with these concepts usually dont really understand where they likes of teenagers are at these days and d, I wouldnt give $250 even the domain kids.us (well ok, maybe i would, but not much more... ;) )
