while conducting a little test for a post i made in another thread, i asked my 13 year old to go to fluff.tv, to see what she would type in- seems many people are told a tv site and they type in name.tv.COM-

my daughter did type in fluff.tv, but because she has had exposure to .tv- she liked acceptable.tv, so she was familiar...

and then, it hit me like a bigscreen on the back of the head... my 3 year old has mastered noggin.com and nickjr.com. my 7 year old has 10 times the bookmarked sites than i do. kids. we are missing the kids.

i looked thru several pages of tv names for sale in our forum. i looked thru all the sites on launched.tv. not a scrap for kids.

THEY are the "viral" on the web- they spread stuff faster than you can say tv. before i can call my neighbor about a site, my 13 year old has texted it to 10 of her friends. i think the boat is being missed on some good messengers for .tv-

i looked at yahoos top buzzwords for today- i can bet half of them is searched by kids-
britney spears
vanessa hudgens (high school mucical)
ANY file sharing/myspace/facebook sites
transformers
clubpenguin
female starts like brit (lindsey, etc)
game sites
sports

yes, many adults, but a TON of kids too- 2 weeks ago when i was at the house behind me for pta stuff, (her hubby is the lacrosse coach for the middle school) she was telling me her son had a sheet of lacrosse sites, and she lost it and he was mad- blah blah=- the fact here is, KIDS have a HUGE impact on the web-

i gotta think a sec- i just KNOW that kids are the spreaders of all things internet- and we did not cater to them at all-

-------------------------------------------------

Whyville has 2.6 million registered users, and about 300,000 unique visitors every month; 85 percent are between 8 and 14 years of age, and two-thirds are female.

Mattel's Barbie Girls online community, opened in April, has been one of the fastest-growing virtual communities for children or adults. Over 4.5 million people have signed up for the free service

looky here- just posted TODAY in forbes online:

http://www.forbes.com/technology/20...echnology-personaltech_cx_ag_1022safekid.html

so many kids are flocking to myspace and facebook, disney bought out clubpenguin, imbee was created and has 50,000 kids users, etc...

see, i could kick myself fo not putting 2 and 2 together before- i KNOW kids rock the web- i bought names gearded towards that months ago like Taffy.tv, Yucky.tv, Boogers.tv, Gumdrop.tv- because i knew then i wanted to do some real cool kids sites- but it didnt click like it did tonight, especially after locals posterchild thread.

I recently open Vocal.TV for kids shows, to showcase best of kids, though using me.tv. I think it's better to use other service.

Wow, you have got me to thinkin on this one. I have one that I just bought from bulldog that may appeal to teenagers, ChannelHollywood.tv. I may need to focus my attention on that demographic...

www.4kids.tv has been rocking the kid world for a long time certainly the most popular children .tv by far. IGAL bought KIDS.tv in the HRTS auction for $10,100 and will probably never develop. Key with kids is development and any name can be developed so I do not think you need a great .tv to market to kids. If the content cool and it gets out there kids and their parents will go to the website. IMO

Scooby has TinyTots.tv which I think is 1 of the best names Ive heard yet for younger ones,

Your right of course Smash kids/ teens are the future!
Been thinking about doing a teen site with either Airtight.TV or GoodVibrations.TV myself

You all weren't even close to paying attention.

Boogers.tv is the one to dev.

I think everyone was paying attention or maybe everyone thought it was about more than the three domains dottie mentioned. and sorry would have to disagree as I do not see boogers.tv as a good name at all no disrespect, especially for little girls that think boogers are gross.

Yes scooby's tinytots.tv excellent

Well, no offense obviously, but let's brake it down about what kids like.

My eldest just turned 3. Every night she tells me about a booger that she found while I was reading her a story. No idea why, that just happens to be what she does behind me while reading the night-night story. "Daddy, look at this booger, it was in my nose."

"Thanks Faith, want a tissue to wipe it on?"
"No, it goes here" Faith puts booger on dresser
"Faith, here, use this"
"Ok." Puts booger on tissue. "Does mommy need it?"
"Only if she is building a puzzle."

But I digress......I also have 3 nephews ages 6-14. They would all go to boogers.tv if devved right. They entertain themselves for hours at family gatherings wiping boogers on each other. And then describing it in detail.

I guess to me boogers.tv could be a huge, if disgusting catalyst.

What I am saying is any domain could be developed its the content the name means very little, I think for a domain tinytots.tv is excellent and I like Dotties Gumdrop.tv very brandable without repulsing some. You said people were not paying attention and I thought the point was KIds and .tv or was it just those three domains dottie mentioned and which was the best domain to develop?

goodness- i just put those names up as an example :) there will always be names that are more attrractive to kids than others - those names are a bit more for the tween and younger kids- yucky.com is a very popular kids site, boogers would attractact a younger crowd (if you got kids, you KNOW kids just like sayin the word!)

anyway- my point is, kids are not just a user demographic- they are a viral one. and the "majority" of what i have looked thru (equity, thanks for mentioning 4kids) is not kid orientated-
i just believe, this is just my opinion in the "how to push tv thing", that we are missing a key element in spreading the word. kids tell kids, AND kids tell their parents, who tell other parents when they have found a cool, safe, kids site.
and the more people who "hear" .tv, the more they will get accustom to it-

we have talked in other threads about the growth of .tv- i just think the growth would be accelerated if the market opened up more to address this part of the market- not to mention when you DO have a popular kids site, the money that can be made with product placement.

ps- equity- the more you can repulse an adult, the more a kid loves the name :)

I bought my 9 year old daughter her own name in .tv and made it a private site via the me.tv network. She has quite a few friends from school etc, using the site. I monitor it ofcourse.
A few of her friends have bought a site also.
Its unfortunate that me.tv do not allow minors to use the sites. If you put the wrong date of birth in, they disallow you. I think it makes more sense to market to minors, because you can monitor for them and its also a lockable site.. makes sense to me.

sorry went off topic.

I agree that the kids market is huge in more ways than one.

you definitely have to be careful with kids sites, especially if they are interactive- but, thats what they are looking for- that is why they are on myspace and vmk-

anyway, this was just an observation i made - kids have a natural buzz factor- kids like wearing t-shirts they won from a site to school, kids are the best billboards :)

parents, even those who are not web savvy, would know more of .tv, if their kids were part of a .tv site. i just saw it as a way to further get the buzz on :)

Smash, its a good observation, and in retrospect should be obvious to us all. Youth is unburdened from old habits and tiresome baggage. Kids latch on to the new like ducklings take to water. Vaste sponges soaking up their world - atuned and ready to move in directions their boring parents dare not seek. History is replete with revolution harnessed with the spirit of youth. OK, maybe this could be summarized as "you can't teach old dogs new tricks" So let's sprinkle as many .tvs in the kiddies path and see what sprouts!

My 2+ year old daughter loves www.Brum.tv (Well she really loves Brum which is a BBC kiddies program about a car hero who goes around saving Brum (colloqueal name for Birmingham UK). At this point she mainly watches the show on broadcast TV, but developing the interactive .tv website was an enlightened move by the producers.

This is just one of the .tv bricks over time that will make a difference IMO. :)

i actually love developing kids sites- soooooooooooo much fun to design- i had one a long time ago- gigglefish.com- just a parked site now but it was fab!!!!!!!!
