What's a guy to do? Oh, the irony of being an END USER for a change...

I've been wanting to start a new company and site. I don't want to reveal too many details but I have been actively seeking a domain of all sorts now for what must be nearly a month now. I have been looking for a really good one or two word .com that is neutral and highly brandable, something real catchy that can be spoken word of mouth and people will remember it. You know what? It has been ridiculously challenging. Over the last month...

- I have sent several hundred emails regarding many domains, some premium, some nice two worders.
- Some emails I have put an offer in, others I have simply enquired "is domain xxx.com for sale?"
- Some offers or requests through Uniregistry market

The result from all that?

From the emails, I have only had 10 replies, 5 of which have simply stated "not for sale at any price", the other 5 quoted me ridiculous prices I can't or won't be willing to pay (6 figures for domains I know are barely worth low $xx,xxx end user and I sometimes offered that low $xx,xxx!)

You know what's funny with all this? I know that the majority of the domains I have enquired about are owned by domainers, from my own research, yet I only had 10 replies out of several hundred. Why are you domainers not responding to my serious enquiries?

There was one offer I came very close to agreeing on with a lease to own option (mid $xx,xxx) but even then I knew the domain wasn't worth near it and I thought "don't become desperate".

The thing is I took a long break from anything domaining and sold up any remaining names before so I owned nothing suitable myself for this. That's the funniest thing about this, I am a domainer and I can't help myself.

Apologies, I just felt like I had to rant for a moment. Yo domainers, stop hoarding domains if you don't ever plan on selling them!.. Hahaha. :)

Maybe I'm just being too picky? :)

What are your specifications like dot com key words, and your budget. I am sure you will get plenty of quotes for you to choose from here.

I have had several messages but nothing that has stood out. Maybe I really am being too picky and need to settle for a decent name that I can build up as a brand. I've been guilty of this before, overthinking the name. Bad habit. :)

@Dave PM Sent :xf.grin:

jk

I have had the same experience when trying to buy domains. My advice would be to let me know what you're looking for and I will try to help a brother for a fair price :xf.grin::xf.grin:

As a person who also owns e-commerce websites, I get your pain. It's easier to just come up with a brand name that no one has, register it for the registration fee and spend the rest of your budget on marketing. At the end of the day, it's the business behind the name that matters.

Hey Dave,

I have many, many great brands. If you pm me a few of the ones you liked, I'm sure I have something for you at a great price. I have too many domains to just stab in the dark, but I feel you.

Best regards,
David
