Following on from my recent struggles of obtaining an ideal name for a new company I want to form let me tell you domainers something.

Now, imagine if for every email I send out I was to make an offer, whether it is $xxx, $xxxx or $xx,xxx. Out of hundreds of emails imagine if 10 of those came back with "sure, let's do a deal". I would then be obliged to buy all 10 domains that I then actually can't afford. Woops.

That is why I can't always put an offer up front for every domain name. So please stop always disregarding emails that ask "how much", because the person could very well be really interested and willing to offer a fair price, like I am.

I am writing this here because I know the majority of domains I have enquired about recently are owned by domainers. Please stop disregarding me, I am serious even if I didn't make an offer.

Not exactly. I have a car/house/boat and I do NOT get 10 emails a week asking me how much. I don't even get 10 emails a year. But I do get 10 emails a week asking how much for a domain. So not a good comparison.
Uh sorry, but - Survey Says...BAAANNT!!
How many inquiries or offers one gets for 'anything' doesn't matter if it's 'not for sale.'

Why is it such a drama if someone wants to know how much you want for a domain? If you're not selling, just tell them. If you are selling, then try to SELL. Is it not that simple? Why does the buyer have to follow certain rules/etiquette? And where are these rules that a buyer must look at before trying to buy a domain? In my humble opinion, this discussion is quite ridiculous. Of course, not all enquiries lead to sales but passing up on even discussing a sale because the potential buyer didn't word their email properly is absurd. Following up on an enquiry is not wasting your precious time, it's what you do to sell, is it not?

The sales pages I use force Name, Email, Phone, Offer and send me the IP address as well so I don't encounter no offer being submitted very often as most leads/sales come from the sales pages direct. If someone emails the Whois address then there is a chance I'll miss it as it's basically turned into a spam box since it's publicly shown and been the same for many years.

Maybe hit...

Post a budget and category as a good handful of domainers ignoring or missing your emails are probably in this forum.

if you send me an email, asking "how much for this name or is it for sale"?

then I'll reply..."if interested, please send your best offer"

if you reply with an offer that is way below the minimum that i would consider selling for, then i may reply with "Thanks, but your offers is too low to consider"

at that point, it's up to you... to up the bid or walk.

we've been thru this convo before.
everybody has their own way of how "they" negotiate or communicate.

also, what's fair for you, may not be equitable to me, and... sometimes it's not about being fair at all.

imo....

I walked in to my "day job" today to find the following email in my inbox,

Hello,

We are interested in acquiring your web address. If interested in selling please let me know ASAP.

Thank you

This is for a 15 year old domain that is our company's main site. Oh yeah, we're going to JUMP at the chance to sell it.... </sarcasm>

The "buyer's" domain was regged about 4 months ago.

Personally, it's emails like THIS that have made it so I don't respond to ANY inquiries unless their is something that SOLIDLY indicates that the buyer is a legitimate. I'm not necessarily looking for a $$$ offer. I'm just looking for an indication that the person is interested in my specific domain and I'm not being randomly blasted like a thousand other domain owners.

I got this email too for our company's main website domain. Just another moron out there phishing or fishing. Blocked their email and deleted it. I'm sure the future will bring a lot of this crap as more morons and thieves get into the Domain Game. Que Sera.
