Its now a race to aquire 3-4 letter .com's , .net's and .org's

Once they are exhausted, what will be the nxt TLD to go for ?

Simply speaking, which are the most important TLD's and which are the least
important ( in terms of $$$ )

IMO generic words in all extensions as people will get used to see and type in more different extensions, although .com will still be king :)

In terms of TLD, imo .tv will do very well soon!

If they got rid of the silly renewal fees, .tv would be taken seriously by everyone :imho:

The way I see this, ccTLDs will continue to thrive... I think .us will be big one day.
Adding new TLDs is not the solution IMHO. If you look at the new TLDs introduced over the past years most have been failures.
By failure I mean that the TLDs have not enjoyed widespread recognition. For example .biz must have more than 1 millions domains, it's enough registrations to make it profitable. But the extension is not truly popular.
.info => ok
.museum .aero .coop => no comments
.pro => another contender TLD
.travel => no comments
.jobs => no comments
etc

IMO any self-respecting business does not want a crap TLD or look like a newcomer.
The consequence is that the value of premium keywords, especially under .com ('Internet waterfront property') will continue to rise.

I read somewhere a while back that to introduce a new TLD to icaan there is a non-refundable fee of $50,000 with no way of knowing what they may say.

If this is true, many more TLD's may be in the future. I hope not. :red:

IMO:

5 letter .com = pronounceable that are brandables
.IN = the ext is getting a lot of recognition for long term investment
.US = once we have a new management
.TV = still questionable due to the pricing structure

most likely 5 char .coms

but at the same time, other extensions will see an increase:

.TV if they ever drop their unequal pricing structure and start behaving reasonable
.US with GD at the wheel, the Parson marketing machinery will have a field day
.CC has long been lingering and seems to be finding more acceptance of late
.EU i refuse to write this extension off, i'm certain that there will be bright days to come.

The reason domain values are rising for dot coms is that its the premium extension. Other extensions arent likely to be very valuable. They are second rate, 3rd rate etc. If more extensions become available they will be near worthless, a 'dime a dozen'.

dot com is premium, first rate, like being on the main street.

My guess is the next thing will likely be continued increasing values for good .com names. Where those that were only worth the reg fee will now have value.

the next thing will be resales of 4L.com in the $10-$25 dollar frame as the flippers unload.
