What whois site do you like the best.. domaintools.com now wants to charge $99 a month..

Hi All,

I really haven't been doing a lot of whois searches recently, but have always used domaintools.com which was nice, but they've changed their policies so even if you do about 5 or more a day they want you to upgrade to a $99 month account..

That's something I don't need for what I'm doing right now..

So wondering what sites you guys like..

I've always heard those stories, at least a few years ago about doing a whois search on a certain site, then if you go to register the name you searched for and it was available, somehow it was already magically registered, supposedly that being related to where you did the whois search. Really don't know if that type of thing stills goes on or not..

But now I just use Estibot's (if you have a membership) I prefer that the best.

whoisology shows 6 moths older whois which comes in handy at times. You can use the other one though.

I only use desktop programs for such important things. In particular, WHIC mass domain checker.
Disadvantage of SAAS solutions: it all depends on the owner of the website - how to use Your data requests. And nothing prevents him to change the terms, as essentially are not buying the software, but merely rent

I always use whois.icann.org. Call me paranoid, but I can't shake the feeling that if I use other services, they'll log the names I look up, and use this information to find popular domains that's I'm interested in.

I've had a regular free account for a number of years, but now it only allows about 5 lookups a day...

DomainTools let you do couple of dozen lookups per day, then it kicks you out. That's enough for me.

I'll have to keep closer track tomorrow... I don't think I did more than 5 today and couldn't do any more.. wasn't a couple dozen though..

Yeah, I just checked my history and it was 5 lookups.. maybe they just recently lowered it because I know I did a lot more than that in one day not that long ago...
