Just to warn some of you, this is another Snapnames related thread, and it may well involve people estimating a domain's value. So if this is 'clutter' to you, or you aren't interested ... then hit 'back' now!! =0p

Okay, so the rest of you are still here.

americanxpress.com dropped on Snapnames yesterday - ovt for 'american express' is ~500k, americanexpress.com is ~150k, and americanxpress.com is ~250.

Bidding straight away shot up to $1000! I'm just curious what people think such a domain is worth, and how long it would take to make money on such a domain.

Not many of the regular Snap users are in on this one (no halvarez even!), but I see a couple I recognise.

So, what do people think:
a) it's worth,
b) what it will end at?

I'd be surprised to see it make that much ... my guess was $3k. But we'll see =0)

Offtopic, but who is this fella 'halvarez'?

His name seems to be on every auction. Weird thing is, when it's just me and him he never bids, ever!@ This has happened about 15 to 20 times or so.

When I see it's just me and him, I already know that I've won the name.

Heh, do a search for his name on NP, you'll see some interesting threads.

Same experience on the whole, except a domain I just won - just him and I, and he put in one bid. I had bid just above that amount.

a) Possible Trouble ?? :td:
b) My guestimate is maybe about $4,300 at snapnames

It would probably take a couple of years to make the money back - just a wild guess though.

There always seems to be loads of people willing to buy & park names like that which I thought would be an obviouse and very quick way of getting the lawyers on your back :-/

A few months ago alot of virginmobile typo variations (about 7) were about to drop - they all had overture scores ranging from about 40 to 250 as far as I can remember.

I decided not to go for them but I checked them a few weeks later and they were all reg'd - The parking pages are so obviouse that it is for Virgin Mobiles and this one even has the balls or nerve ? to put - Copyright ? Verginmobile.com All Rights Reserved

I have no doubt there is alot of money to be made in typos but I did'nt think you could get away with being as blatant as this !

I guess it looks like you can !

If you do a search on this forum (or was it DNF ? Can't remember) you will see that Amex has already wrote to typo owners. I would not want to deal with their legal dept so good luck to anyone who will catch the name ;)

$21,980.00!!

Also watching (no pun intended) weighwatchers.com. That's up to $5600 with over a day to go. Crazy.

SO not worth it. 250 hits a month? It will take like 40 years to pay it off. Good luck.
Downlaod.com went for like $51k a believe a while ago.

Yes it does.

TM protects against "similar" and "confusingly similar" marks. So yes, this would include typos. It even has its own name called typosquatting.

Just noticed that the bidding ended at $6k for everyone but two - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and zx-zx or whatever it was. I guess that's the 'beauty' of Snapnames - two people want a domain, the price can go to crazy levels.
