Hi,

I just received the typical "I'm interested in your domain name listed for sale" email.

I know it is a complete SCAM because they have used exactly the same words as in another offer I received some time ago.

I paste the email so you can recognize it if you receive it:

Hello,

I'm interested in your domain name listed for sale.

Can you drop me your desired price?

If I can afford it I'll reply.

By the way, did you receive offers from other buyers?

I run a software development company. Selling & buying names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Please keep our correspondence confidential.

Best regards,
This time it is signed by a certain Dwight Cheney, president of TCR Engineering, but this may change.

I am just starting to be fed up with this kind of nasty people. If I respond to this email they will say they need a "serious" appraisal (and they will recommend allfordomains for sure).

Cant we do anything against this?

Should I respond with an accusing email?

What do you do when this happens to you?

The problem with this scam is that they are not doing anything illegal. They just fool people into thinking that they are interested in your domain name when they really have no interest at all, just to entice people to buy their appraisal. There is not much you can do but send a complaint to the authorities and/or delete the email.

No, mine is a gmail one.. but I have received this mail in other accounts so I dont think it has to do with that.

It is very annoying indeed. I will just reply telling them not to even dare to send another email to me.

I would,nt reply, sometimes I think they count on that to get certain email information from you - ignore it - or block the sender

The reason I say that is because I once got a similar email about one of my domains, I replied with a price - then within 2 days I received a spammy email and it was addressed from - nyname(at)tiscali.co.uk TO nyname(at)tiscali.co.uk !!!

I contacted Tiscali and they are aware that someone is sending emails using their address - ie: support(at)tiscali.co.uk sales(at)tiscali.co.uk - and probably alot of their customers emails like mine !!!

They send a email to you and hope that you click on a link which either drops a virus or something like that.

The two emails I got came from different accounts...

I am thinking if it would be a good idea to post a new thread with all the email addresses sending this kind of email (which is easy to recognise).

That would prevent domain sellers from falling into the same old trick. Also, if anyone feels naughty and spams their accounts with tons of emails... ehem

Report them AllFordomains.com

It is the allfordomains scam repackaged. Here's what you can do.

Report the spam email to

www.hotpop.com (if the extension is phreaker.net, toughguy.net, etc, it's coming from hotpop.

I've just received another one that was related to a previous offer on one of my domains sent from ***@dragonbaitstudio.com with an attachment which I do not intend to click on.

dragonbaitstudio.com looks like it is owned by the following people according to the whois ---- www.popularenterprises.com/

POPULAR ENTERPRISES, L.L.C. Domain Administration Department

The attachment looks like this ------- price_new.zip(12.5KB)

If they really want to make an offer they can do as it is parked with sedo

Have'nt theses people anything better to do ??

Sorry Im quite confused.

I email people when I am interested in their names, am I doing something bad?

I Drop an email to the email address off their site and offer them a certain ammount for their domain name or whatever

Im not spamming them...
