What to do when domain expired but hold on it?

I am in a predictament. There is a great domain name that has expired but there is a still a hold on it from the registration company. This is the first time I have dealt with this situation.

Is it smarter for me to wait until the hold is gone, go to snap names and back order the domain, or contact the registration company asking to register it?

Many sources to Whois have old status info that hasn't been updated. Your best chance is not to alert anyone that they have a "sucker" tugging on their fishing line.

Instead just do the doamain name backorder that you mentioned, so you'll at least be right in line to grab it up (hopefully first) when it finally IS fully dumped and no longer held in any way. The beauty of this is that even in the middle of the night while you're sleeping, they're hard at work trying to snag that domain for you. I've gotten several great names using this method.

(BTW, unless I misunderstand, you want to get rid of all the domain names listed in your signature. If so, I would strongly urge you NOT to part with bestofbeer.com. It's much too good of a name to lose.)

Thank for your words. About my domains... I am only going to part with them for the right price. I just picked up purse.cc yesterday.
