Hi Guys,

I have seen numerous sites that have not EXPIRED (and wont for like 1 year) but they are in a REGISTRAR-HOLD and the site is down.

Why is this? And is it likely a snap would work?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Lars

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Possibly,

Customer renewed a domain but turns out the credit card was bad or check bounced.

Name was involved in a successful dispute.

Name is pending a transfer to another registrar.

Name was involved in illegal activities or violated registrars TOS.

I wonder if it could also show up if the nameservers provided are invalid.

Could you give a few examples?

The one i was looking at (and have a snap on) is:

Domain Name: KAZAA-LITE.NET
Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: http://www.opensrs.org
Name Server: NS1.ROCKSOLIDISP.COM.NS-NOT-IN-SERVICE.COM
Name Server: NS2.ROCKSOLIDISP.COM.NS-NOT-IN-SERVICE.COM
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 24-aug-2003
Creation Date: 23-aug-2002
Expiration Date: 23-aug-2004

and another one I am looking at is:

Name Server: DNS1.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS2.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 07-sep-2003
Creation Date: 01-sep-1998
Expiration Date: 31-aug-2004

Thanks for your help, but what about these examples?

Ah, that helps.

Query the domains with their registrar. For instance with kazaa-lite.net, go to OpenSRS and check their local WHOIS. In this case, the name is past the expiration date.

OpenSRS may or may not have paid the fee to the registry though 2004, but likely they have it in that status temporarily to give the customer a chance to renew before putting the name in the redemption period status.

Thanks for that; so you reckon it is worth a snap? :)

It depends on the registrars. Say, eNom. will give the above the extend for 1 year.... Nope it extend you 40-42 days only. Then the domain will be at redemption period for about 30 days... Pendingdelete later...

Hope this help :bah:

I am a reseller. At first I doubt for the what I see... But as time passed on, I see the result (delete of expired domains later ... 78 days for enom.com approximately).
