I have noticed a huge spike in marketers and scam calls + emails in the past month since I have been very active buying domains.

It's gotten to a point where as I am answering one call, someone else is on hold calling me.

My inbox looks like the inside of a dumpster.

I know that the registrars are selling my information to marketers.

How do you deal with this?? Do you use fake numbers?

I use the '+' operator in my email address (supported by most email providers) and create filter rules, for example:

[email protected] (or any other string instead of 'whois')

That way you'll know who abused that version of your email address, and you can either create a new one or filter the emails to a separate folder.

Never heard of this method...Thanks a lot! But I know that this is not coming from one registrar or domain name but multiple, although NameBright does seems to be heading the list. When I ask them which domain they are calling me about it is (mostly) a domain registered with them

I get these emails. About 10-20 a day. They are usually trying to sell me 1) an impossible plural or single, 2) two word domains with reverse words, 3) hyphenated domains which I own the unhyphenated, and I saved the best for last 4) My own domains I'm dropping which haven't dropped yet. I wonder when they will get it. They go straight in the bin.

I'm disappointed I don't get to talk to anybody. I guess that's because they don't want to call internationally :)

In case you have the time and will to take such a call, you can just friendly flip the topic from the first second on and offer them your domain name(s) for sale.

Thank you friends for your input.

Here's an update:

As I have been backordering a lot, I didn't realise that both NameBright and NS dont automatically hide your who is for domains that you just captured. To add to this, NetworkSolutions charges you to have hide your whois information!

I have worked around the latter based on your recommendations, and although my inbox is still being spammed daily, the phone calls have finally ceased

I don't mind if they call me. They have family to feed and a job to do.
I just politely put the call on hold with nice music after asking them "Would you mind to hold?"
Best reply ever
