It's gotten to a point where as I am answering one call, someone else is on hold calling me.

My inbox looks like the inside of a dumpster.

I know that the registrars are selling my information to marketers.

How do you deal with this?? Do you use fake numbers?

If you are getting calls your info is public somewhere. Email spam gets sent to anon whois emails and that is normal. Never reply or they get your real email and pass it around.

I just politely put the call on hold with nice music after asking them "Would you mind to hold?"

I have had privacy 'on' for the last six months, but I've noticed a big upturn in domain services spam emails in the new year - mostly from India.

There have been some big data breaches recently with hundreds of millions of emails and personal info leaked and on-sold. Many of these lists are marketing/spam lists. I wouldn't be surprised if this info is also matched to old WHOIS records ie. your domains, email and phone number.

You can also check if domains, email or passwords have been exposed.

I don't enter my full passwords... just the first few characters to see if there are any potential matches.

Set up a Google Voice account and use that # on your WHOIS info.

Voodoo.

Not the parking site, the old school practice of making a doll and sticking pins in it. Sure, it is time consuming and doll making materials are hard to find during lockdown...also, finding the necessary chicken blood can be a challenge as well (unless fowl are available running around the house...in worst case, go to grocery store and get some uncooked drumsticks and squeeze).

Seriously, I feel your pain but just make sure you have privacy set on your names. Some registrars make you pay extra, some it is totally free...also remember that the spammers might be using your 'masked' email and just shooting in the dark to get to you. Just have a good email filter and delete them as they come in...don't ever open one. Oh yea, make sure your name resolves to your own landing page or use one of the aftermarkets (NEVER pay more than 15% commission no matter who you use).

The question I have is, do you have domain/Whois privacy on or off for your domains? Sometimes, that makes a world of difference. Having it on can reduce the amount of spam calls and emails you get. Granted, if it has been off for a while, changing it now might not have as strong an impact, initially.

I use the '+' operator in my email address (supported by most email providers) and create filter rules, for example:

[email protected] (or any other string instead of 'whois')

That way you'll know who abused that version of your email address, and you can either create a new one or filter the emails to a separate folder.

It is actually a bit quieter now than normal. Most of my domains target their industry so they are most interested. I have noticed less bother over xmas holidays early new year with their outbound.

That is what I suspected but going over my domains, they all have whois privacy on

It is also the default for most registrars to have whois protection on

How do i deal with it? I use privacy and i get zero.

If a genuine buyer is interested in your domain, they can still contact you via landing page.

I personally cannot understand why people 'don't' use privacy this day and age.

Never heard of this method...Thanks a lot! But I know that this is not coming from one registrar or domain name but multiple, although NameBright does seems to be heading the list. When I ask them which domain they are calling me about it is (mostly) a domain registered with them

Namebright it is.
I registered 1 domain with them and forgot to turn on whois privacy and it didn't turn on by itself. I have received over 25 calls within 48 hours of registering. And I know its NB because I accidently provided my personal number in this instance and thats the only place it's being used for whois.
