I'm looking at some 3 letter domains of a certain extention. Now what would be better:

1) goe.yyy
2) uzi.yyy
3) hyr.yyy

Like how do you go about choosing 3 letter domains that aren't words? What works best if you want to reg it to sell only. Advice is appreciated.

One thing to watch for is letter quality. There are 9 so-called "bad" letters: Q, Z, and X are the worst, Y, V, and U second and J, K and W are not as bad. The other 17 letters are called "premium" letters. (The next two, H and F are really no worse than W IMO, but thems the rules.) A name is largely judged on it's worst letter. If the name has all premium letters it is worth more in many people's eyes. In your example goe is the better name from a letter frequency standpoint. A Uzi is a weapon made in Israel, probably a trademark issue and who would want a site on that anyway.

Another useful tool is Overture. This will tell you how many times a word was searched last month - more important than how often it appears in other websites, IMHO.

Okay here is the real list. Those were kind of examples.

azu.yyy
jub.yyy
juo.yyy
ule.yyy
uzo.yyy
viu.yyy

I know they aren't primary letters, but which one is better?

I'm still not sure if it's worth spending on any of these. I mean is there going to be a return on these babies?

I don't need a massive 10 million dollar return, I'm just wondering if I'm wasting money.

Quite possibly the worst stuff I have ever tasted. But the have resina (or something like that) - supposed to be even worse!!

Of the alternatives I prefer Jub and Ule. But neither is all that good. You keep calling the extension yyy. I would expect there are only two letters - a Country Code extension. If it is a small / poor country then you are dependant on domainers for resale - and that is not an easy thing for such domains. If it is .name I would forget it, nobody seems to want those, at least now.

Do you have the list of all the three letter domains available in that extension? If not then you probably are missing the best available. You could dig through the "available domains" section - I know there is a thread listing three letter .cc there, probably some others. Much better .cc are available than those.

Have you thought about renewal? The chances of selling three letter names in extensions where they are still available to register for much of a profit are not very good. Those are more long term investments - and renewals are expensive.

Please move slowly here. There are a lot of people (see the sales section) dumping domains they wish they had never bought.

It is a country domain. It's a big country.

Right on! I've actually learned so much here and I'm glad I didn't blow way too much money. Like I said I have 18 domains and I don't really want to push it unless I'm going to get a return.
