Hi everyone!

How do you usually buy your domain names ? Register as new, look for the names you like, go through auctions ?

What make you buy a name ?

Thanks !:tu:

Good question.

How:

I love registering new names. Although I sometimes get carried away. I can't help but get excited when a name I didn't expect to be available, is.

I'm not an expert when it comes to auctions but I do like them. Bido has been good to me lately. Quick and inexpensive purchases.

Why:

For me, its a few things...

Domaining

- I need to see resale value
- I want to see opportunities for the name that I can share with a buyer
- It needs to apply. To life, to a product, to a future product, to a market or to a place

Developing

- I like uniqueness. So, is it original? (from a branding perspective)
- Natural key words. For example, I want "approvedcarloan" rather than "carapprovedloan"
- When I feel "clever" for coming up with a new name, or
- When I feel "clever" for seeing an at auction name and immediately applying a development idea to it

Those are just some of the reasons I buy and where I buy, from the top of my head.

I used to only register domains that I thought would be good for parking. But whiile many of them were good for parking they did not have much sales value. Now I am mostly getting domains that I think will have some resale value and should also make some money from parking. If I can make the regfee in a year I don't lose money, even if I drop the domain becuase I cannot find a buyer.

Most of the domains I find from looking a lists of expired domains, but once in a while I will register a new one if I see it available.
