I loved the debate. It showed each persons strong points and weak points.

What is your opinion?

It was interesting. I didn't learn anything new from it. I would give it a draw, or perhaps a slight edge to McCain, who didn't look Obama in the eye not even once. That sort of body language does not bode well for McCain.

Winning or losing debates seems to make little diference. Bush lost his debates but won 2 elections (I still can't understand how he did that)

I don't know honestly. I hear repeatedly that Obama "won" at so many places but honestly I did not see a whole lot from him, and I am trying to be as objective as possible.

Obama actually argued against himself on the question about talking to rouge foreign heads of state. He talked about how we have engaged North Korea - both Clinton and Bush - and we've had good agreements come out of them. Problem is, we never held high level talks (IE leader to leader) at either instance and NK is back to their old games. I was thinking McCain should point that out while he was saying it, but then Obama brings it up. I'm thinking, okay, you just used the once instance you had going for you but then brought up that it's not working either...

Obama seemed a little ticked on a couple instances where I think McCain kept his own temper in check quite well, but definitely nothing major. Obama seemed to score points on his economic policy. (Which I agree sounds swell on the surface, but the problem being for me is the ultimate cost under the surface.) Putting that aside though, that was the only instance where Obama seemed to do "well."

McCain kicked him across the stage with foreign policy, IMHO. McCain was very specific. Another thing that got me is Obama turned to attack McCain on veterans, but quickly caught himself and did not say a thing. I saw someone who was somewhat uncomfortable and unspecific on a lot of policies for Obama. I think McCain was weak on his economic policy and it's something he needs to better explain.

All in all, I think this was a debate to show where they stand, but I would submit that we already know that. It's a very clear choice between a fairly left platform and a center to right platform.

If that's what the media is saying then it's further proof of how they have always been and continue being biased in favor of Obama. :(

It solidified my decision with regard to who I am voting for.

I think Jim Lehrer is a boring moderator and needs to ask tougher questions.

Did anyone notice that Obama referred to his opponent as "John" and McCain referred to his opponent as "Senator Obama"?

No comment on the debate itself except to say they both held their own imo. Anyone thinking about voting for McCain should really check out factcheck.org and therealmccain.com

I noticed that too. Not sure how to take that or even if it's important.

And similarly, http://www.rightchange.com/ to understand Obama's plan, which is difficult to do quite honestly if you just listen to him. I think with both one should always dig a bit deeper.

That was entirely by design, IMHO ... Obama has been surging in the polls since the whole Palin thing has essentially backfired for McCain and since the economy (and McCain's clear lack of knowledge and several public missteps with regard to it!) has taken center stage ... Obama is now working to make that final and lasting connection with independent folks who have been looking for him, at times, to be a little less professorial, and more down-to-earth and "folksy"! :gl:
The are, for the majority, already leaning toward him for REAL change, but he would like to see even more love! :xf.love:

Obama clearly won the night ... but, really, the more important aspect was that McCain needed to hit a homerun / a 'gamechanger', if you will, and he severely failed to do so ... with the fumblings and painful staggerings of Palin headed into Thursday's debate with the more experienced and polished Biden, and now Obama and Team Clintonโ„ข actively out in the key battleground states and districts, it's going to be another very dismal week and weeks ahead for the visibly shaken, tired and aged, and increasingly desperate, McCain (Bush)/Palin ticket! :o :red: :imho:
Tick. Tock. :ghost:

Check Obamas website itself on taxes and smear ads.

That site you posted is obviously lieing on his tax plan amongst other things.

Plan

Doesnt much matter I guess, while I am for Obama, McCain has already dug his own grave for picking Palin. If McCain doesnt ruin his own run for the white house she certainly will.

LOL

^Ouch! :guilty: :!:

Jack is spot on, as there is NO ONE - not one single sane person, in my judgement - that can argue this point any longer ... Palin is becoming increasingly painful and, really, totally uncomfortable to even watch at this point! It's like "bring-your-Mom to show and tell day", or something ... my Goodness, friends! :o :'(

Just my two sense.

He makes less than 50NP$ a month! D-:

Let's make a ribbon for his brother and get some money to him since clearly his brother doesn't really care.

Has anyone compared Obama/Biden's charitable giving percentages (not dollar amounts) to McCain's? It's pathetic. :alien:

Hmmm.......... McCains donations went 100% to his own charity if you look at the facts, and him and his wife are waaaayyyy richer then Obama and biden combined.

That's why I said to look at the percentages. Biden and his wife have made over $200K a year and give $360 a year?

Obama gave 1% of his income??? (until he ran for President. I didn't know the Congressional Black Caucus was a charity.)

Do the math yourself and think for yourself - quoting a campaign website is the ultimate act of quoting ignorance. Obama says himself he wants to raise the capital gains tax. That is frequently on his website and in his mouth, and most folks don't know what that means, less the consequences. And that will most certainly affect the middle class.

Yes, it hits the rich folks who make the money from capital gains, but where do you think most 401ks derive their income from? Investments. I'm missing any explanation on that at Obama's website...strangely enough.

As far as small business owners, I'm definitely keeping up with this, as I am one myself. He's going to raise the social security tax. Again, publicly stated. So now, the object is for my business to have success, but not too much because I'll get taxed harder.

Do you have any clue how much universal healthcare costs? When counting medicaid, way back in 2004, it costs $300 billion to insure less than 50 million. 2007 medicare spending is $440 billion.

Where the heck are we going to get a trillion dollars to ensure these folks?
