The Jesus Family Tomb

So I'm watching the Today show this morning and something struck me as profoundly wrong.

Some ancient tombs are in New York right now (originally from Jerusalem) that speculators say could contain mind altering contents; the bones of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and a child. If true, they say, it could rock Christianity to it's core.

We'll know right after we recap the Oscar winners from last night  WTF? The Oscar winners! That, my friends is what is wrong with life nowadays. Perspectives & priorities.

BTW: I'm atheist, but I can still think theo-logically. There are so many angles. Does anyone else have comments?

PS. Here is a link to the Discovery Channel who produced the documentary.

Here is a BETTER link to the discovery documentary

Blind, unquestioning faith. That's is what is wrong with the world. People should always be encouraged to question and probe. Questioning is the best way that we can learn as humans and find truth.

It's always the people who know they are on shaky ground that are the first to get defensive and nervous when people start asking questions.

There are things in this world that we can prove and cannot prove. Science and reason explain the former category. Religion and faith are there to explain the latter category.

It's all the same in my book: People who blindly follow a dogma. People who refuse to question elected officials (so long as the officials line up with the people's political leanings). People who let ideology trump fact. What's even worse is how people systematically misconstrue and contradict the history of the very dogma/ideology they adamantly adhere to.

That's a nice, valid comment, Fonzie. Thank you .

But, what I was so floored by was how the Today show bipassed what I consider monumental news that would tug at the fabric of society, whether or not you are religious. They chose to go with a recap of the oscars instead. That just struck me as odd and wrong.

The news usually doesn't lead with the most important news of the day. They normally open with the most sensational news of the day, the type of news that gets ratings. Turn on your TV and watch the news sometimes. Good luck finding anything about world events or even what is happening in Iraq/Afghanistan. My local paper, even with its left slant, still confines stories about soliders who were killed in Iraq/Afghanistan in small print somewhere near the back of the paper.

What's wrong with skipping over it? They both involve groups of people in it for the money. The world's all about money, it's been that way and always will be. "Disproving" Christ has become a multi-million dollar industry.

The documentary hasn't yet aired. You're going to lose audience when you let the cat out of the bag early on and the last "Gospel of Judas" idea proved that as it aired and then faded into the background.

Thats true. I remember Brittany Spears shaving her head was the top news story that next day. Then, afterwards, it was like "In other news, XX soldiers were killed in Iraq today."

True.

As much as I like watching films, and can admire good acting, I will never be able to understand the hero worshipping that goes on for a bunch of people who's job it is to pretend to be someone else...

I can sum it up and a nice single short sentence: Good ratings sell, Bad ones do not.

Please stay on topic and do not turn this into a debate about personal beliefs. Refer to the Title of the thread and the OP's post for appropriate discussion. Thank you.

Thanks, Gene.

In deed this thread is not about God, Jesus, religion per se. This thread is about how the media has come to put ratings over benefit to society or safety.

How many times have you heard things like, "baby food maker recall due to botulism, right after the weather...."

That is what is wrong. Either the story has major significance or it is a load of crap. I think the media should either have to follow the truth in advertising law, or report such stories above the foo-fooey crap that gets stuffed in between the real content.
